Lake County Delinquent Tax Sale Delayed to September

Lake County postpones the 1936 tax roll delinquent sale from August 2 to September 6. County Tax Collector A. Williams said the delay gives property owners more time to pay, with delinquents owing advertising costs. The delinquent list will run in the Topic through August and the first September issue.

Eden City Destroyed by May 29 Volcano Eruption

The Mid Pacific Eden city of Rabaul was buried as Volcano Island erupted at 4 p.m. May 29. Captain Olsen and crew of the Golden Bear evacuated 750 refugees, mostly women and children, to safety amid ashes and pumice drifting over the harbor.

State Superintendent Colin English said Governor Cone assured funding of 800 per instruction unit for public schools totaling about 11.5 million dollars. The figure represents the state's planned allocation to support instructional programs.

Lake County Horticultural Group Nets Florida Meetings

The Lake County Horticultural Association voted to hold four agricultural meetings across Florida to discuss a proposed marketing agreement. Meetings are Lakeland July 14 at 2 PM Fort Myers July 14 at 8 PM Fort Pierce July 15 at 2 PM and Orlando July 15 at 8 PM. Frank T. Montverde Receives Fine Pipe Organ Gift

Plans Made For Annual Meeting Of County C of C

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting at Lakeside Camp Clermont Minneola from 4 to 7 on Friday September 10. An important speaker will address the gathering and reports of the year will be given followed by director and officer elections.
