Kiwanis will host a luncheon with baseball figure Joe Tinker as guest speaker. Tinker, famed for the Cubs era and the nickname linked to the famed double play trio, is set to address local fans and discuss baseball in Florida.
Mount Dora and Pine Ridge of Leesburg both sit at the bottom of the standings and meet Thursday night in a regular scheduled game with the loser earning six lead paper weights to hold down its station. Fruitland Park visits Monday for an extra schedule game against the locals.

Lake County gains state maintenance for State Road 256 from Howey to Warner’s station and for the Lake County segment of State Road 44 from Mount Dora to Sanford including the Wekiva River bridge approach. Senator George F. Westbrook and Representatives John Fahs helped secure the transfers after a Tal lahassee conference with the State Road Department chief and chairman.
W H Drake and H A Stein who run Sylvan Shores and the Sylvan Shores Hotel at Mount Dora are making elaborate improvements this summer. They add game rooms a private dining room and convert a former store room into offices extra rooms and baths for staff. The hotel earned an enviable reputation in its first season.

The library will close for cleaning and repairs from Monday July 26 and reopen Monday August 2. Public services will be interrupted during the shutdown and staff will relocate tasks as needed.
The Lake County Board of Public Instruction awarded the plumbing installation contract for the Sorrento school to Paul F. Johnson of Mount Dora. His bid was 317 dollars.
The 1937 Growers Institute will run from Monday August 30 to Friday September 3 at Camp McQuarrie near Astor. Mount Dora’s 94 year old resident Mrs. E. S. Huntress recalls the town’s evolution from horse and buggy days to a modern tourist center. She arrived in 1884 when about 20 families lived here. by 1935 the population reached 2,122 as Lake County formed and Mount Dora expanded with paved streets and utilities. Her sons reside in Massachusetts, Edward in Pittsfield and Louis in Andover, who wintered with her last season.
The pocket County Chamber of Commerce offers a newly published booklet titled Highways of Florida. Beautifully illustrated and informative, the guide is free at the chamber office in the courthouse for county residents to pick up.

The four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Watts escaped injury when a car left on a hill on Alexander street rolled free after Mrs. Watts parked between Fifth and Sixth streets. The vehicle coasted downhill, struck a curb, toppled a fire plug, and nosed into a lamp post with only minor damage to the auto.
