Lake County gains state maintenance for State Road 256 from Howey to Warner’s station and for the Lake County segment of State Road 44 from Mount Dora to Sanford including the Wekiva River bridge approach. Oldest Mount Dora Resident Recalls Growth Since 1884

Mount Dora’s 94 year old resident Mrs. E. S. Huntress recalls the town’s evolution from horse and buggy days to a modern tourist center. She arrived in 1884 when about 20 families lived here. by 1935 the population reached 2,122 as Lake County formed and Mount Dora expanded with paved streets and utilities. Her sons reside in Massachusetts, Edward in Pittsfield and Louis in Andover, who wintered with her last season.

Dr Herman Kurz of Florida State College reports torreya trees along the Apalachicola River appear to be reproducing with about 60 specimens found in varying sizes. The rare species once spanned wide ranges now survives in Florida and Georgia across the border and in California Japan and China.

The four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Watts escaped injury when a car left on a hill on Alexander street rolled free after Mrs. Watts parked between Fifth and Sixth streets.
