Boats Set to Race Sunday at Mount Dora Regatta
Up to 50 inboard hydroplane drivers are expected in Mount Dora Sunday for a Lake Dora power boat regatta with $2,000 on the line. Thirty-one entries had been received by Tuesday, with registration closing at 10 a.m. January 25 at Gilbert Park. Eight classes race on a 1 2/3 mile three-lap course in front of the Mount Dora Yacht Club. the event is American Power Boat Association sanctioned and co sponsored by the Florida Inboard Racing Association and the Mount Dora Yacht Club. Parachutist exhibition replaced in this year’s program.

Burglary Report At Thriftway Market In Mount Dora
Mount Dora police investigated a burglary at Thriftway Market on Highland Street and Fifth Avenue. Entry was made by breaking a glass door with a cement fragment. cigarettes and canned foods were stolen. Case referred to the Detective Division. The next day eight illegal aliens, Mexican citizens, were arrested at 634 Limit Avenue and held for Border Patrol after being taken to Mount Dora jail.

Legion Auxiliary Sets Bicentennial Capsule for Mount Dora
Mount Dora marks its Bicentennial with a February 12 ceremony by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 35. A one time capsule will be buried in Donnelly Park containing historical and present items to be opened in 100 years. Local dignitaries Navy Band and high school band participate. A 6 p.m. post dinner costs $4.00.
