Power boat regatta thrills Lake Dora crowds
Florida and other states sent 35 drivers to a two heat power boat regatta at Lake Dora. Eight inboard hydroplanes raced on a 12/8 mile course run by Mount Dora Yacht Club with Florida Inboard Racing Association and sanctioning by the American Power Boat Association.

John Alden Murray 66 longtime Mount Dora resident dies
John Alden Murray of Mount Dora died Tuesday at 66. He was a real estate broker and insurance agent since 1946, formerly from Spring Lake New Jersey, and lived in Mount Dora 37 years. He was born in Scranton Pennsylvania, son of Dr. Gilbert Murray and Katherine Murray. He attended Hill School and Princeton University class of 1934, with studies at Harvard Law and Columbia Business. Survived by widow Shirley, daughter Jane Hartley of Scotland Neck North Carolina, and brother William Murray of Paris France. Funeral Friday 11 a.m. at Rehbaum Harden Chapel with Rev. Leo Lacy officiating. Memorials to Mount Dora Community Trust via First National Bank of Mount Dora.

Raymond Jenkins of Mount Dora died January 22 at Waterman Memorial Hospital from second and third degree burns suffered January 13 when a kerosene heater ignited a blaze in his apartment behind Ben's Barber Shop at 525 Grant Ave. Fire officials could not question him due to his condition.

Mount Dora police arrested five juveniles and a 21 year old man after investigating five cases. Three black male juveniles were charged with forgery over a money order at 7 11 and referred to DYS. A 10 year old black male was arrested at Rehbaum TrueValue Hardware with stolen jewelry from a burglary on Eleventh Ave and charged with two counts of burglary. An 11 year old white male was arrested for larceny of three batteries at Sears in the Golden Triangle and referred to DYS. William Everett Peacock of Eustis was charged with assault at Mount Dora Growers Cooperative and released on bond. The police chief announced steps to eliminate stray dogs in Mt Dora.
