Twenty years ago this week the Princess Theater showed Fantasy in Technicolor and a made up laundry tip stirred readers. The New Year's Day Regatta sponsored by the Yacht Club and Chamber of Commerce drew praise from Commodore Walker Kennedy and hints of a revival. Second class Seaman Dwight Mosteller and his brother Paul visited home for holidays while Grantland Rice lauded Dora Canal as the nation’s most beautiful mile of river. Ten years ago theatre announcements and Lake Dora pollution debates filled council meetings as the Gannett family planned Mount Dora moves.
