United Appeal Drives Localized Campaign in Mount Dora

Mount Dora residents organize a concentrated United Appeal fundraising drive targeting 1967 funds. A 2500 mailout to local residents is coordinated by City Attorney Roy Christopher with posts from Al Rehbaum Jr and Sam L Shaw. Mount Dora Rotary Club president James Brandt delivered a check for 800 to Mr. Orvel Boyd, president of Christian Home & Bible School, at a Rotary luncheon. Proceeds from a recent Rotary barbecue funded the gift and will support the school library with additional donations expected.

Three new directors joined the present eighteen member Board at Bank of Mount Dora during its second annual stockholders meeting held Tuesday January 10 in the bank lobby at Golden Triangle Shopping Quarter. Ellwyn E Brown a former City Commissioner and Mutual Life Insurance agent resides in Mount Dora with his wife Sue and three children. Owen W Conner III of Lake Jem heads Ocklawaha Nurseries Inc and holds a BS in citrus from Florida Southern College. Both men have served on the bank advisory committee for two years and are active in local civic and fraternal organizations.

Florida Symphony in Mount Dora Feb 20

The Kiwanis Club of Mount Dora hosts the Florida Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. February 20 in the Community Building. Yuri Krasnopolsky conducts a program including Orpheus in the Underworld, Espana, Finlandia, The Blue Danube, and An American in Paris. Proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Youth Activity Program. Less than 200 tickets remain at $3 each from Dora Photo-Music Center or Kiwanis members.

Mount Dora Council Approves Capitol Move and Appoints Committees

City Council president Robert F. Wason announced appointments for the 1967 council including City Attorney Roy Christopher and City Engineer A. E. O Neall. Flame Colors For Statewide School Zones

Fluorescent flame colors would be used statewide in school zones under a proposal to the Florida Road Department by Lake Rep. W. H. Reedy. The move is part of Reedy’s Traffic and Highway Safety program for Florida and the nation. He spoke on Highway Safety before the Women’s Federated Clubs of Dade County, addressing over 900 attendees in Miami.

The fourth annual Florida Lions Foundation for Blind Fund Drive began January 15 with Mount Dora Lions Club chair Allan H. Seabrook announcing a mailed appeal to area residents.
