Bank of Mount Dora Opens in Shopping Center

The Bank of Mount Dora opened in temporary quarters at the Triangle Shopping Center offering full services from 9 am to 2 pm weekdays and 5 to 7 pm Fridays. Edwin Budge Mead said local turnout was strong and prizes will be awarded for account openings with winners notified by mail. The bank leases 40,000 sq ft near Lake Gem and US 441A with a permanent facility hoped within six months.

A two week peace officers training school opens Monday in Eustis with sponsorship from the Lake County Board of Public Instruction and the State Department of Education. Classes run daily at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tax Collections In Lake County Exceed 78 Percent

Lake County tax collector Paul H. Reed announced that more than 78 percent of the 1964 real estate and tangible personal property tax roll has been collected. Net collections as of December 31 are 3,908,959.40 with distributions to the Board of County Commissioners, Board of Public Instruction and various districts, plus state receipts for intangible taxes. A 2 percent discount applies to January payments and 1 percent in February. penalties begin April 1 if taxes remain unpaid.

Lake County agribusiness rebounds to near record level

Lake County's 1963-64 agribusiness income rose sharply from 1962-63, reaching 98.8 million while Growers and ranchers earned 58 million at the farm gate. Citrus led with 79.5 million in on tree and citribusiness, Florida data show, and two thirds of oranges are Valencia. The report notes recovery from the 1962 freeze, expansion in cold protection, and significant contributions from vegetables, dairy, timber, recreation, beekeeping, and related industries.

First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Lake County Leesburg reports year end assets surpassing 26 million dollars with mortgage loans at 22.7 million, savings at 23.3 million, and reserves above 2.1 million. Lake County motor vehicle license tags go on sale February 1, announced County Tax Collector Paul H. Reed. 1965 tags will run 13 months and cost 5 cents more than 1964 plates, with fees set at $14.09 for D cars, $22.22 for plain tags, $30.34 for W tags, and $38.47 for WW cars.
