The Griswold Trio performed at the Community Building replacing the Hanscom Players after their cancellation. The show featured singing by the Griswold sisters, impersonations and musical readings to a responsive audience. Membership reached 807, up three from last season.
Elmer V. Cartledge has moved to Washington D C to serve as secretary to U S Senator Bridges of New Hampshire. The former governor, who previously was executive secretary for a year, served on the state Republican committee and supervises state reorganization efforts.
The Mount Dora Vikings face Schwob Tailoring Co. from Orlando in Donnelly Park at 8:00 P M tomorrow. It is the Vikings first game of the season and fans expect a strong challenge from a well regarded opponent. Key players include Hale Ray Perkins Tremain Mosteller Parker and Haskins.
The Topic highlights the First National Bank’s strong condition with a deposits growth chart. Deposits rose from $270,921.69 in 1933 to $373,683.62 in 1934, $531,330.78 in 1935, and $604,619.93 in 1936, marking a gain of over 123 percent in three years.
G. W. Coffin, who bought the Donnelly and Fourth building from the Town, has torn down the structure. H. L. Drugg’s repurchased lot is cleaned and prepared for erecting a new building soon. The Pick-Up stock moved to 401 Alexander Street, ore operations shifting there. Drugg plans a corner building.

He was arrested by Chief Story and Officer Shipes and jailed in Tavares awaiting transfer to Marianna Boys School. His brothers are reportedly involved or wanted in nearby towns.
The notice corrects earlier remarks about Paul L. Conrad and Alvina Jahnke. Conrad has completed a Master's degree last June and is now pursuing a Doctor's degree.
The Pythian Sisters plan a food sale on Saturday January 9 in the building beside the Topic office. Pies cakes cookies baked beans salads and other appetizing items will be sold at reasonable prices for a community fundraiser.
Ted Shawn renowned dancer and winter studio founder in Lake County was elected an honorary life member of the Eustis Kiwanis Club. He left Wednesday for Havana with his troupe for four engagements and a Miami show before returning to Eustis.
Honorary members including Senators C O Andrews and Seavert, and Congressman Joseph Hendricks, received home membership certificates in the county chamber. The ceremony marked their recognition by the local business association.
Leesburg Kiwanis announces 1937 officer slate led by President D F Crane and Vice President C J Brown with Secretary T M Kramer and Treasurer W L Story. Directors include Alfred Rehbaum Harry Clark Miller Wells J E Fortner G B Hurlburt A C Quixley Geo J White and Immediate Past President O M Simpson. Seven members posted perfect attendance in 1936 and several members earned high attendance percentages on the year.
A 125 pound doe leaped through a display window at the G. W. Whitney Co. store in Conneaut Ohio causing chaos as witnesses tried to corral it. The injured deer fled toward open country as Game Protector Charles Mitchell hunted it, but the trail was lost.
Mount Dora Yacht Club publishes a year calendar with events through March. Club meetings on Thursdays, card parties Wednesdays, and dances on Fridays feature members Mallory Edgerton Graves Lashar Kramer and others. Schedule includes cafeteria events, Monte Carlo party and annual ball dates.
Lakeside Inn begins its second season under new management with higher reservations and many return guests. Over twenty five first time visitors arrive from various states, plus a concert season with Miss Ahla Sparrell and her Trio. Notable guests include Mr. and Mrs. Abel of Sparta Wisconsin and Dr. Iola Kay Eastburn of DeLand Florida among others. Local residents are invited to Sunday evening concerts.
The Mount Dora Art League will present the third lecture in its nationalities and art series on January 7 at the Lakeside Inn. Mr. H. N. Gallie of Eustis will speak on Greece and Its Art, with music and dancing to follow thanks to the hospitality of Mr. Richard Edgerton.
The Imperial Singers a six member ensemble perform light opera ballads and popular tunes as the fifth winter program at the Tourist Club. The entourage includes the Ambassador Quartet Swiss Bell Ringers and local performers Miss Marion Peck Thomas and Miss Maxine Saltsman Wayne Richardson of Mount Dora. The event precedes the Heart Dora Chamber of Commerce annual meeting January 14 at 6 pm in the Community Building with dinner served by the Kiwanis Club and proceeds aiding community equipment.
The junior play McMurray Chin progresses toward a March 15, 1937 presentation in the C Building. It features a story of a young wife seeking independence and has earned praise from other schools and the Santa Fe Daily Times which called it lovable and worthy of stars.
The January issue of the Lake County News mailed to 1590 readers in 43 states and Mexico. Ohio leads distribution with 179 copies followed by New York 99 and Pennsylvania 83. The publication, issued by the County Chamber of Commerce, features Mount Dora Montverde and Montverde communities with articles on local topics and a page on the Lake County Growers Institute. Copies are available free on request. subscription is 25 cents annually.
Willis Powell former Lake County Chamber of Commerce secretary and Florida civic leader spends daily hours in his den crafting toys and useful articles. He made at least one toy for every child in his Indian Springs Georgia home community. Doll furniture sets were donated to orphanages and children’s hospitals. A novel pair of book-ends depicted the legs and tail of a COAT Lane greeting from Willis Powell.
Lewis H Woodruff, auditor for Ringling Circus, maintains a winter home at Clermont. He and Mrs Woodruff operate a significant business under a joint name after a very successful season with the circus.

A year end note salutes Dr Karl Lehmann for earning the Doctor title. The message from W J Sanborn praises his meritorious labors and roles as secretary of a Florida county chamber of commerce and a statewide commerce group.
T. C. Boyd of Tavares runs a dairy and poultry operation on 90 acres along the lake shore road, raising 20 head of cattle and 16 cows.
