The sixth winter Tourist Club program will be at the Community Building Auditorium next Tuesday. Miss Lillias Parker is pianist, with C. O. Honas as leader. The group, praised as a top Cappella choir, performs Beethoven violin solos and Parker piano solos, featuring McCreery and others.
The juniors stage a period drama about Ellen McMurray’s struggle with marriage, family control, and an iron works sale. Aunt Deborah and a nurse clash over childrearing as Ellen fights to keep the business and her baby. Ellen’s revolt culminates in a triumphant return.
The Lake County Real Estate Board monthly meeting at Sylvan Shores Hotel Dora is postponed one week to Thursday January 21 due to a scheduling conflict. The change postpones the regular session and affects board business and member attendance.
The two story frame house on First Avenue owned by Flood E. Reed of Norwich Conn burned fiercely and could not be saved. Mr and Mrs J I Dean who worked nearby were absent. Insurance was $2000. A small amount of goods survived though most was destroyed. $150 in bills was saved but charred. Flames rekindled around 9 p m in the ruins.
A DeLand youth, Mr Tatum, was killed after a car crash on Sanford Road near Sorrento while returning a borrowed vehicle from Mount Dora. He suffered fractured vertebrae and skull, died at DeLand Memorial Hospital around 5 a.m. Sunday. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs John Tatum of DeLand and survived by several brothers and sisters.
M V Simpson of Mounts appointed chairman of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee by president Col C E Lester of Grand Island. Other members include W H Richey Leesburg C F Evans S C Peacock Umatilla J Anderson Groveland and Dodge Taylor Howey. The panel will choose highway projects to back and push plans through the chamber and cooperate with the Board of County Commissioners.
The Florida Waterway Congress officers and directors will meet at the Fountain Inn in Eustis Monday May 25. The gathering aims to discuss ongoing projects and organizational affairs with attendees from the state chapter.
Tuesday at Tourist Club offered high class entertainment led by the Ambrose Malok Bell Ringers and quartet with Marguerite Truman and Vera Hatch. The hour and a half program interwove vocal solos with bell ringing and instrumental numbers, concluding with The Italian Street Song and a varied repertoire that drew an enthralled crowd.
Frank Weidman was arrested Saturday night for stealing from the Piggly Wiggly and later confessed to thefts at other grocers. He faced Justice of the Peace O M Simpson on Tuesday, was fined $50 or 50 days in jail, and paid the fine with a bank check. He carried a little over $3 in change at arrest.
The Apopka Canal is cleaned and open for motor boats and kickers along its full length. Donations fell short by 7.14 to cover all costs, but are expected to be completed. Water hyacinth removal is crucial to keep Lakes Beauclair Dora Canal and Dora Canal navigable.
Chief W. L. Story has been off duty since Saturday due to illness and confined to bed. R. G. Shipes has relieved Story during his absence.
J. E. Mattocks will address the Townsend Club Monday night at the Community Building. The event promotes sober social conduct with the motto a man never prolongs his life by drinking to others health.

Town Council met Tuesday night to organize for the year. L. C. Jerne was elected president and Grady Simpson vice president. Appointments include Drugs and Finance by Frank Burkart, H. W. Harlow, and T. M. Kramer for Water and Light. Frank Burkart for Streets. Grady Simpson for Fire. Elizabeth Evans as Custodian of Public Buildings and Heim Park. H. W. Harlow as Chairman Building Committee and Building Inspector. H. W. Over as Fire Inspector. L. A. Tremain Health Officer Dr Will L. Wood.
The Community church choir schedules a Monday night event at the church February 1 with a short program in the auditorium and a birthday party in the lecture room. Guests donate one cent per year of age to raise a $100 pledge for a new organ, plus refreshments and sociability.
Mount Dora Chapter No 103 of the Order of the Eastern Star held a special meeting on Friday January 8 to install officers for the year. Mrs Mamie Lander installed officers including Mrs Josephine French as Worthy Matron and Mr Leslie Jackson as Worthy Patron.
Shawn Dancers unveil Libertad a three movement ballet created during a winter studio period near Eustis. Jess Meeker composed the score with performances spanning past present and future rhythms reflecting Mexican Californian and American themes in a vibrant Florida premiere with tickets at Mount Dora Pharmacy.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Atkins purchased the former J. G. Ray home at 708 South Grandview Street and will occupy it immediately. Win C. Sleight bought a Lake Gertrude lot and plans a future home. E. L. Herzinger sold property on Grandview Street to Miss Stella Owens of Story Bros Mount Dora store, via J. J. West Realty Company.
A free lecture on natural healing by Dr. Benedict Lust, president of the National American Naturpath Association, will be held Friday evening January 15 at Tangerine City Hall after the support lecture. Mrs. Ward Estey invites all to attend.
A remarkable poinsettia brought to the office by J S Weeks from his home on Shannon Avenue drew comments for its unusually double bloom. Its petals form a dense circle, resembling a peony in appearance and size.
Mount Dora's Margaret Champ active at Stetson University and in campus leadership receives honors as editor in chief of the Hat ter. The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce holds its annual meeting at the Community Building with a fifty cent dinner and an after dinner talk by Phil ene, Florida Agriculture official. Wayne Richardson leads music with Miss Marion Peck Thomas and Miss Maxine Saltsman as artists. Directors for a two year term to be elected, replacing Geo J White, Geo C Keller, M W Simpson and A C Quixley. Dinner at 6 30 p m open to the public.
Mount Dora Vikings opened the season with a 37 36 loss to Schwab Clothing Company of Orlando as they showed mid season form despite a practice shortfall. Manager Turner and President Thomas praised the locals and noted Cecil Parker the standout recruit could become a star at center.
Mount Dora Lodge No. 238 F and A M held a January 7 1937 installation with District Deputy Grand Master J E C Wilson as Installing Officer and M W Simpson as Marshal. Officers installed include W M James R Edwards S W Ward S Estey W J W Thomas Treasurer M Gudgeon Secretary J B Stagwold S D J Charles JD E A Reddit SS J W Moore S Estey. Refreshments followed.

Local agent Mr. Turrentine cites the new pickup and delivery service, launched at the start of the month, as a key factor along with overall improving business conditions. Patrons praise the added convenience.
