Realty Board Meet Postponed to January 21

The Lake County Real Estate Board monthly meeting at Sylvan Shores Hotel Dora is postponed one week to Thursday January 21 due to a scheduling conflict. The change postpones the regular session and affects board business and member attendance.

Former Reed Home Destroyed By Fire

The two story frame house on First Avenue owned by Flood E. Reed of Norwich Conn burned fiercely and could not be saved. Mr and Mrs J I Dean who worked nearby were absent. Insurance was $2000. A small amount of goods survived though most was destroyed. $150 in bills was saved but charred. Flames rekindled around 9 p m in the ruins.

Young Man Fatally Injured In Wreck Near Sorrento

A DeLand youth, Mr Tatum, was killed after a car crash on Sanford Road near Sorrento while returning a borrowed vehicle from Mount Dora. He suffered fractured vertebrae and skull, died at DeLand Memorial Hospital around 5 a.m. Sunday. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs John Tatum of DeLand and survived by several brothers and sisters.

Simpson Named Highway Committee Chairman in Lake County

M V Simpson of Mounts appointed chairman of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee by president Col C E Lester of Grand Island. Other members include W H Richey Leesburg C F Evans S C Peacock Umatilla J Anderson Groveland and Dodge Taylor Howey. The panel will choose highway projects to back and push plans through the chamber and cooperate with the Board of County Commissioners.

Weidman arrested for petit larceny after grocery thefts

Frank Weidman was arrested Saturday night for stealing from the Piggly Wiggly and later confessed to thefts at other grocers. He faced Justice of the Peace O M Simpson on Tuesday, was fined $50 or 50 days in jail, and paid the fine with a bank check. He carried a little over $3 in change at arrest.

Apopka Canal Cleaned Up Opens for Boats

The Apopka Canal is cleaned and open for motor boats and kickers along its full length. Donations fell short by 7.14 to cover all costs, but are expected to be completed. Water hyacinth removal is crucial to keep Lakes Beauclair Dora Canal and Dora Canal navigable.

Choir Plans February Fundraiser for Organ

The Community church choir schedules a Monday night event at the church February 1 with a short program in the auditorium and a birthday party in the lecture room. Guests donate one cent per year of age to raise a $100 pledge for a new organ, plus refreshments and sociability.
