Mount Dora Council approves a one day transfer of city offices to MDHS seniors. Don Christopher leads the project for Problems in American Democracy class with two campaigns and a March 17 election. Real officials supervise as students act as Mayor Council City Clerk and Police Chief in a civics exercise.
The Mount Dora Lions Club launched its annual fertilizer sale on February 3 with first delivery slated for February 14 and three more Saturdays on February 21 28 and March 7. Co chairmen Al Cyran and Phil Ritterband note strong sales and describe pickup options at Golden Triangle Shopping Center or via mail to P O Box 131 Mount Dora.
Norman C. Cummings, 31, sworn February 16 by former City Judge Jesse Willmott, becomes Mount Dora’s city judge. He accepts little salary, aims to gain experience in lower courts, and presides for the first time on Monday. A 1967 University of Alabama Law School graduate, he has worked with A. G. Edwards and Sons in Lees and joined P. B. Howell in a Tavares law practice. He is married with three children, including a daughter born last Sunday.
