Sherwin Williams reports a Spring 56 expansion in house paint production to 3,000,000 gallons due to scarce materials earlier. President Arthur Steudel notes top quality products with price rises tied to material costs, and local dealer Alfred Rehbaum says orders are first-come, first-served.
Beulah Hollingsworth Chiapasso, a celebrated soprano, performed a full evening of classical songs January 29 in Mount Dora. Accompanist John Carr of Rollins Conservatory supported her with refined interpretations as guests from the club and beyond enjoyed encores and English introductions.
The Rollins Faculty Trio will present a chamber music program at City Hall auditorium Eustis on Monday evening February 17. Mr. Alphonse Carlo violin and Mrs. Carlo piano join Rudolph Fischer cello to perform works by Beethoven Debussy and Dvorak.
A note lists Mount Dora golf offering nine holes for 1.00 and 1.50 for presumably different times or conditions.
The Community Club hosts engaging programs drawing good attendance. Patton introduced Henry L. Conover in travelogue style on China. Upcoming acts include Lestas the magicians and the Carlo duo with violin and piano. Season ticket sales are advancing well.
Morning Worship at 9:45 and 11 o clock with pastor Sutley preaching "Under the Juniper Tree" at morning service. Evening Worship at 7:30 features congregational singing and a sermon "Running Away." Mid week service Wednesday 7:30 with choir rehearsal Thursday 7. Music by the chorus choir. The air conditioned and heated building assures comfort.
Morning service led by Ross Dutton with Reverend George Gibson preaching on What Lent Means to Protestants. Evening service features Hymn Fest and talks on Christian Stewardship by Gibson and others. Sunday School at 9:45, Youth meetings, and Ash Wednesday Holy Communion service at 8 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Eversole of East Lansing Michigan bought a three acre orange grove at Tangerine and have started building a winter residence. The Eversoles are an uncle and aunt of Mrs. George H. Foote.
George S. Andrews said a VA representative will be in Mount Dora City Hall council room each Thursday from 1 to 2 30 PM. The services aid area veterans with GI education benefits health care pension and service insurance.
Scoutmaster William J Barker spoke at the Lions meeting in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. He brought Cub Scout Glen Woodward and Senior Scout Barry Norton and described Scout activities supporting 2,000,000 Scouts worldwide. The event highlighted the World Friendship Fund gifts totaling 110464.36 and the Shirts-off-Our-Backs drive delivering over 400 cases of uniforms to 13 nations.
Members and guests heard Frank Bridgman discuss Frederick Tudor and the first ice cutting and distribution while Harold Goforth spoke on the Chamber of Commerce and Mount Dora's benefits. The next meeting on February 19 focuses on Library Day with the Library committee in charge.
The Hing of the Town Council on February 4 1947 heard Ed G Kier protest a Building Inspector M B concerning a building complaint in Block 432 Section 16 Mount Dora. The council upheld the inspector's decision. It approved the Veteran's Memorial Home site in Block 466 Section 32 part of the Golf Course. The clerk reported the State Board of Health awarded the water supply the highest rating after a bacteriological test.
The Yacht Club featured multiple gatherings including a cocktail party for Mr. and Mrs. Armer Johnson honoring guests Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dooling of Decatur Illinois. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. John MacDonald and Commodore and Mrs. Kennedy staged dinners and bingo with a busy bridge schedule upcoming on February 19.
Mount Dora Lodge No. 238, F. and A. M., will hold a special meeting at 8 p m Friday February 14 to confer the Entered Apprentice degree. The regular meeting on February 20 will handle Fellowcraft work.
The High School Glee Club and the Sedano Memorial Band postpone their Sunday concert due to weather. It will now take place on Sunday February 23 at 3 pm in the Community Building with the program to be announced in the Topic next week.
Kiwanis Troop 19 hosted National Boy Scout Week events at Mount Dora with Frederick Sleight of Rollins College presenting Indians. He traced peoples from Bering Strait to Florida and the Seminoles, noting their continued peaceable existence and self governed laws. Adults and boys alike paid close attention to the lecture.
An art lovers event comes to the Community Building on February 20 with a showing of colored slides from the National Gallery in Washington. The American Federation of Arts calls the set one of their finest illustrated lectures. Mount Dora Art League presents the slides to benefit high school students and adults in the Golden Japa area with a small admission fee.
The Chamber of Commerce membership drive in Orlando reached the halfway point with 129 members recorded by Monday. The report notes many partial lists and states full names will be published later. Membership cards are being mailed to participating businesses and individuals who joined by Tuesday noon.
Dr. James A. Richards urged generosity for hungry people in war devastated lands. Contributions go to a distributing agency, with next Sunday’s sermon titled Difficult Religion. Bible class meets at 10, Mrs. Taylor reads Job 38:1 to 42:6, followed by analysis by Mr. Frank Eric and the class. The Woman’s Association, led by Mrs. Van Wie, heard Mrs. Henry L. Conover describe life in China and displayed Chinese silks, foғades and linens.
The Garden Club meets today at 2 30 p m in the Community Building social rooms. Members will hear talks on palms and hibiscus.
Members push toward a 300 season ticket goal at $1.50 for the full series. Tickets available from the committee hotels Chamber of Commerce or the office of L A Tremain. Last week's program featured Mrs Helen Conover on China with sound pictures. Upcoming gifts include Prof Carlo violinist and Mrs Carlo February 18, and the Stetson Glee Club February 25 with Alma Grantham accompanist.
Eighteen club members entered the blind bogey tournament at Mount Dora Golf Club played in wintry conditions. Winners were Roy Christopher Arnold Haynes Clayton Tremain and Grady Simpson in first place followed by Ed Nutter W M Kennedy and Harold Overhiser and third Jae Groves Tom Kelly and Howard Nutter. Tracy Kramer broke 100 with 48 48 96 in the nine hole putting contest W A Vincent topped with 15 putts.
Umatilla led by a game after the second series as rain halted the third series in a Saturday night tournament. The return contest is set for Monday here. Mount Dora groups travel to Orlando for Dickson Ives Sears Roebuck singles on the 18th and 19th with new lights expected to be installed soon.
