Lawn Bowling Club Mourns John M Welch Member Dies

John M Welch of Detroit and Mt Plymouth died February 7 leaving the Lawn Bowling Club missing a genial member. Mrs Welch receives club sympathy as President Thomas and members Bryant Downes Wilmot Swift and Hadsall attend the state tournament in St. Petersburg entering two trebles teams. Ed Jones and spouse won all their games in the husband and wife event with a three way tie for second. Continued on page 8.

Mount Dora Band Boosters Club Organized

A group of Mount Dora High School supporters met in the auditorium to form a Band Boosters Club with Mrs. George Coffin elected president for the current term. A constitution committee was named to draft rules ahead of the February 19 meeting at 7 30 p.m. All band supporters, especially parents, are urged to attend.

Mount Dora increased its Lake County Chamber of Commerce memberships to 128, surpassing the 120 quota and joining 11 towns with full marks. Rev. A. E. Driggers of Rochester Pennsylvania spent the week in Mount Dora, preaching at the Community Church. He was impressed by Mount Dora and intends to move here, saying it is more beautiful and attractive than any other Florida town he has visited.

Beautiful Vesper Service Draws Large Local Audience

A Sunday afternoon vesper service at the Community Hall drew a large appreciative crowd. Florence Gilbert Hanscom led organ and Celia Stein Claflin sang contralto while Marie Tice Carson accompanied on piano. Mount Dora operates on war time with schools and the Mount Dora Publishing Company as the only groups sticking to the old schedule. The publishing house will shift to 8 to 5 daylight hours once daylight extends, to avoid extra electricity use. The extra afternoon hours are enjoyed by workers leaving Gaterick earlier, gaining more daylight for outdoor activities at home.
