Mount Dora Scouts Train for First Aid Blackout Work

Mount Dora Troop 10 formed the Emergency Service Patrol to provide first aid without lights. Led by William J. Barker, the unit demonstrated during Central Florida Council events in Mount Dora, treating a simulated blackout victim with splints and bandages by touch and patient information.

Vesper Service Planned at Community Church Benefit

A vesper service will be held Sunday at 4 30 PM at the Community Church sponsored by the choir. The program includes organ pieces arias duets and instrumental numbers by Gounod Wagner Brahms Tschaikowsky and Bizet performed by Celia Stein Claflin contralto and Herman Leibenthal organ with additional artists. An offering will benefit the choir fund and the public is invited.

Troop 19 Sets Another Record in Mount Dora Scout News

In Groveland last Monday night Troop 19 celebrated seven Eagle Scouts, possibly a national first for a single troop. Ray M. Blanchard Jr. earned Eagle with his father receiving the award, along with W J Barker and his son also Eagle recipients.

Magazines and Games Sought for Vets Hospital Drive

Mount Dora American Legion posts a truck load of articles to the Veterans Hospital at Lake City on February 22. They seek current magazines discarded games puzzles decks of cards and similar items. Please deliver gifts to City Hall before February 22 to aid sick and disabled veterans.

Mount Dora and vicinity raise 235.93 for the Infantile Paralysis Foundation with half kept locally for County Chapter Victims and the remainder supporting the National Foundation programs such as braces. Four DeLand Club teams visited the local courts last Friday to a rare perfect double tie. Each club claimed two wins and totalled 71 points as players like Hill Parker Morse and Edwards posted notable scores in morning play. Mount Dora Lions Club met with Mrs Avesta R Sutton of Mobile Alabama to discuss staging another home talent play in Mount Dora late March. Alfred Rehbaum Jr and R V Parker led a committee to arrange the production. Millard Reid joined the club. Sutton and Parker won this week’s Defense Stamp Contest.

Mount Dora Town Council Meeting Discusses Grants and Warnings

At the regular monthly gathering the council, mayor, and city attorney attended. George J. White of the Chamber of Commerce presented clippings and spoke on Mount Dora’s growth, while Chas. Stokley’s visit was personal. A Christian Science lecture at the Community Building April 9 was approved with heating and lighting paid. Letters on street work, air raid warnings, and a fire company order were reviewed as salaries for town employees were raised to offset living costs amid postwar conditions.

Prominent Publisher Visits Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora

Eugene C. Pulliam, noted publisher from Indianapolis, and his wife stayed at Lakeside Inn last week. Pulliam, owner of 10 daily papers and two radio stations, has a long Midwest editing career and now leads Central Newspapers Inc. They plan a return visit in spring.
