Good Night Ladies Farce Set For January Play

The junior class has chosen Good Night Ladies a three act farce to be staged January 15 1943 at the Community Build. The plot centers on the Raleigh youngsters Helen Jane and Sam inheriting an old mortgaged house near Grayson College and planning a dormitory to raise funds. Aunt Flora and Aunt Barbara Stevens agree to act as matrons but the Dean threatens to expel the girls. A scheme to fake a telegram prompts impersonation of the aunts by Sam and Jug Brown to avert disaster and allow a professor to help save the project.

Company B Field Day Sunday Planned by Florida Defense Force

The Florida Defense Force Company B 4th Battalion will hold a field day this Sunday with target practice including slow and rapid firing using sub machine and shot guns. A scouting and patrolling course will be run and one meal will be served. The unit mobilizes at Kimball's Garage at 9:30 a.m.

The local Coast Guard auxiliary reports a thorough cleaning of Dora Canal the natural waterway linking Lakes Dora and Eustis. Commander Harry Backus prompted prompt action by writing to Coast Guard officers, sending a crew to remove obstructions including logs up to fifty years old ensuring reliable navigation.

Christmas Celebrated at Mount Dora Service Men's Club

The Mount Dora Service Men's Club stayed open through the holiday season to serve soldiers on leave. The club and tree glowed with lights as hostesses greeted visitors and the community donated cards and handkerchiefs for about 219 servicemen and trainees. A guarded camp received chocolate and a cake funded by a donor. Flowers and gratitude were extended to city officials and helpers.

The Lakeside Inn held its Christmas Eve tree trimming and a Christmas morning program at 10 led by the Lakeside Inn Trio. Mrs. Etta Austin McDonald read from Mrs. Appleyard's Year, gifts were exchanged, and a porch Egg Nog Party preceded a Christmas dinner. The lobby concert featured a Philart Trio and several soloists. Residents and guests enjoyed carols, a special concert, and notes invite Mount Dora residents to future events. Recent arrivals include George W. Lieutenant Brooks son of Mr and Mrs C E Brooks of McDonald Street is stationed at Drew Field Tampa and serves as assistant supply officer at the Base Hospital. He joined the Medical Corps in 1941 after training at Camp Blaine Camp Lee Greenland service and Carlisle Barracks where he was commissioned as second lieutenant. Andrew Cole at Davis Monthan Field Tucson trains in medical supply after Camp Grant Illinois and a transfer to Arizona. He enjoys the West life. Carl Minkley at Boca Raton Quartermasters Corps spent Christmas at home with a short furlough. Corporal Robert Quixley will be home New Years on ten day furlough from Camp Blanding and is a chief interviewer in Headquarters Company now Captain Lemuel C Downs. His wife heard a letter of advancement Tuesday while he serves somewhere in the South Pacific. Cadet William Thomas Shipes left for Athens the day before Christmas.

Rev Garfield hospitalized in Orlando Florida sanitarium

Rev Frank L. Garfield, long ill at home, was moved Tuesday to the Orlando Florida Sanitarium and Hospital. His son Frank Garfield and wife arrived from Washington, D.C., to be with him, while Mrs. Garfield remains ill though not seriously.
