Lakeside Inn social highlights mark Mount Dora luncheon
Lakeside Inn hosted the Mount Dora Woman's Club annual luncheon with over 110 attendees. The New Year featured the official opening of a reconditioned putting green and plans for the Lakeside Inn Championship in the second week of January. Regular putting teas begin after January 15. A bridge party last Saturday honored Mr. and Mrs. George C. Hutchinson who won both first prizes, defense stamps. A Sunday evening concert featured noted artists including Jo hanna Van den Burg and Beatrice Reed. Several guests arrived from Leesburg and beyond, with locals and visitors enjoying the event and birds observed by Lakeside’s resident ornithologist Mrs. Louis G. L. Myers.

B Company Briefs Field Day and Training Highlights
Co. B held a successful field day on Sunday January 2 near Wolf Branch under Major Dave Wiley and Lt Harvey Kimball with Mr W M Ford acting as umpire. The program included scouting patrolling shotgun and submachine gun practice and tactical drills for about 30 enlisted personnel. A mess by Cook Stafford Story and assistants followed. All January drills will be in Eustis with ongoing recruit intake and basic training for 18 and 19 year olds to gain an advantage in service.

A large number of Mount Dora residents purchased 1943 automobile license tags Tuesday. Courtesy of county tax collector Mrs. Pearl Cullen, a tag agent was at the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce to serve locals so they need not travel to Tavares. The agent will return Thursday evening from 5 to 9 at the Chamber of Commerce office, Fifth Avenue, to assist workers and others who have not yet obtained tags.
