The Lions Club gathered at the Hotel Mount Dora with 100 percent attendance. No business was transacted beyond routine matters, and members were urged to attend the next meeting as Lions International’s letter is expected.

New Assistant Scout Executive Joins Central Florida Council

Poe S. Herden is appointed Assistant Scout Executive for the Central Florida Council serving seven counties. Based at Orlando headquarters, he will assist Scout masters Cubmasters and skippers and guide committees. Formerly Troop 22 Scoutmaster in St Petersburg he comes from the Florida Power Corporation and aims to aid the war effort through professional Scouting.

Film Output Drops From 1941 Levels

Production of amateur photographic film is cut by 50 percent from 1941 output, while professional film supply falls 24 percent below the base period.

Lakeside Inn social highlights mark Mount Dora luncheon

Lakeside Inn hosted the Mount Dora Woman's Club annual luncheon with over 110 attendees. The New Year featured the official opening of a reconditioned putting green and plans for the Lakeside Inn Championship in the second week of January. Regular putting teas begin after January 15. A bridge party last Saturday honored Mr. and Mrs. George C. Hutchinson who won both first prizes, defense stamps. A Sunday evening concert featured noted artists including Jo hanna Van den Burg and Beatrice Reed. Several guests arrived from Leesburg and beyond, with locals and visitors enjoying the event and birds observed by Lakeside’s resident ornithologist Mrs. Louis G. L. Myers.

War activities public meetings set for Leesburg

Lake County Schools at War will report activities at two public meetings Friday January 15 in Leesburg High School auditorium. An inter club supper from 6 to 7 30 p m will precede a 7 30 program with exhibits and war bonds on display. Prominent speakers include Colin English John Fahs Karl Lehmann and Miss Patsy Blanton who will receive a $100 bond.

Red Cross Offers First Aid Classes at Defense Room

Mr Barker will run First Aid refresher courses as registrations meet the requirement. Anyone wishing to enter the class should sign up. A Red Cross pin was found outside the Community Building and may be claimed at the Defense Room by identifying the pin.

Cafeteria Supper Friday Planned by Methodist Group

The ladies of the Methodist church will host a cafeteria supper tomorrow Friday at 6 p m in the Community Building. Patrons are encouraged to attend and support the event.

Nutrition Class Starts Tomorrow

A Red Cross sponsored nutrition class begins tomorrow in Mount Dora at the Community Building. Instructor will be Mrs. Lucie K. Miller, Lake County Home Demonstration Agent. Sessions run Fridays 2 to 4 PM, with a follow on canteen training course.

B Company Briefs Field Day and Training Highlights

Co. B held a successful field day on Sunday January 2 near Wolf Branch under Major Dave Wiley and Lt Harvey Kimball with Mr W M Ford acting as umpire. The program included scouting patrolling shotgun and submachine gun practice and tactical drills for about 30 enlisted personnel. A mess by Cook Stafford Story and assistants followed. All January drills will be in Eustis with ongoing recruit intake and basic training for 18 and 19 year olds to gain an advantage in service.

Dead River Bridge Closure Hours Public Notice

The War Department announces a railroad bridge over Dead River between Lake Eustis and Lake Harris may stay closed to navigation from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. the next day. In the afternoon and early evening from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., the bridge will be opened on minutes notice.

Kiwanis Club Holds Annual Meeting Highlights and Installations

Last week the Kiwanis Club held its annual meeting with no program beyond a review of the year by George White. He summarized the club’s accomplishments and highlighted each committee’s work. Fletcher Crane won the attendance prize. J. Edwin Baker of Umatilla will install the 1943 officers as past governor of the Florida District Kiwanis. An honor roll for December lists many Kiwanis members including Quixley, Crane, Engelhard, and White.

Community Church Sets Annual Meeting for Next Wednesday

The Community Church will hold its dinner and annual meeting on Wednesday January 13 after postponement from January 6. Last night nine members joined, with one full member and eighteen associate members, who retain home church ties but participate in Church affairs during temporary Mount Dora residence.

Can Buy Auto License Tags Here Tonight

A large number of Mount Dora residents purchased 1943 automobile license tags Tuesday. Courtesy of county tax collector Mrs. Pearl Cullen, a tag agent was at the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce to serve locals so they need not travel to Tavares. The agent will return Thursday evening from 5 to 9 at the Chamber of Commerce office, Fifth Avenue, to assist workers and others who have not yet obtained tags.

Drivers examinations set Mondays and Thursdays in Lake County
