Clermont Gets Dial Phones Celebrate New System
Clermont Minneola and Montverde received dial telephones through the Clermont exchange of the Florida Telephone Corporation during a celebration hosted by the Clermont Remanis Club. O H Keene rang the final crank phone call as an operator exposed his secrets to the crowd. The Kiwanis gathering praised support from C O Roe who lent $5,000 twenty years ago. The new dial service started after lunch with over 1000 calls placed in two hours on 1000 phones. The Florida Telephone Corporation previously installed dial phones at Mount Dora and plans to convert more exchanges soon. Lake County features in Kenneth Friedman cartography book praised by local officials.
