Benefit Successful at Princess Theatre for King’s Daughters

Saturday matinee at the Princess Theatre drew good attendance for the film Start Cheering and raised 38 dollars 75 cents for the King’s Daughters Christmas fund. The event thanks Sparks Theatres and manager J. V. Seckinger for the generous support.

Kiwanis hosts the annual Christmas Eve party inviting all local children and neighbors. King's Daughters Complete Plans For Christmas Toy Drive

The King's Daughters drafted final plans at a Monday meeting to collect and distribute toys for a Christmas tree drive. WPA sewing room workers contributed toys, with many others sending gifts. display and packing take place at Coffin's home 619 East Sev a avenue before Friday afternoon packing.

Bangle Day Raises Funds in Mount Dora Sale

Bangle Day in Mount Dora netted 15.47 from sales sponsored by the Tuberculosis and Health Association tied to the Christmas Seal Sale. Girl Scouts Vernal Shipley Alma Cooper Betty Cooper Gladys Irene Crane Marilyn Johnson Geraldine Retan Martha Williamson Florence Fenton Aleene Moon and Frieda Stevenson handled the bangles. Christmas Seals remain on sale for letters through the New Year. Funds support tuberculosis and health work.

Kiwanis Christmas Plans and Speaker at Meeting

Kiwanis members distributed toys for Christmas baskets to the King’s Daughters and announced who will deliver each gift. Rev. M. J. Bouterse and Mrs. Bouterse will lead the Christmas message with songs, and Mr. Bouterse is a longtime guest speaker. Committee reports highlighted excellent work, with details on civic and welfare efforts to be published later. Red Cross hits roll call quota in Lake County tale

Lake County chapter of the American Red Cross reports reaching its goal of a thousand members at a December 16 meeting in Tavares. Mount Dora enrolled 265 members, with larger gifts keeping most funds in the local treasury, while businesses added 100 percent participation posters.

Leesburg County Commissioner W. H. Richey Killed Crossing Street

William H. Richey 76 longtime Lake County commissioner from Leesburg died instantly Monday when struck by a car in the East Main Street business district near the Fain Theatre. Witnesses said the vehicle, driven by two men, sped through town and dragged him about 100 feet. two arrests reported and a car owner with brakes defective. Richey, a prominent local leader active in road improvements, served 11 years on the board and helped secure federal road work. He leaves a large family with funeral services held at Morrison Memorial Methodist Church and graveside rites by the Leesburg Masonic Lodge.

Mount Dora Student Sings Bass Solo in The Messiah at Stetson

Tom Parker of Mount Dora sang a bass solo in the annual The Messiah at Stetson University last Sunday afternoon. The Handel oratorio was performed by the Stetson chorus of 108 voices with the university symphony orchestra of 36 instruments. Parker is a sophomore in the school of music.

Improvement Effort at Lake Shore Park Gains Momentum

Lake Shore Park at the foot of Donnelly Avenue is being beautified by the Civic Committee of the Woman's Club with help from local organizations and merchants.
