A fragmentary notice describes a possible theft or tampering involving a pear pocket knife found at the post on Monday. It mentions gremlins, a fire extinguisher, and a par taetic tent, with an empty cot and a can pierced at the top. The reader is asked to notify Chief Brown about the incident.
Lake County Chamber of Commerce launches its 1944 membership campaign as 1503 memberships were recorded in 1943. Senator J Edwin Baker chairs the effort with in county quotas for sixteen communities and plans to mail renewals and new member cards via check or War Savings Stamps.
Miss Elizabeth S. Noble longtime Kinsman Public School principal visits Sylvan Shores at Mr and Mrs Ben F Field home with Myrtle Peck and Matthew Noble. Nobles plan permanent Florida residence. Mr Noble has long been with White Motor Co. Miss Noble a poetry contributor to magazines.
The Winn Lovett Grocery Company joins Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce as the first member for 1944 by sending in twenty dollars for two memberships.
The band under director Penne Tear will perform Tuesday December 28 at 8:00 p m in the Community Building. Changes reflect illness with solos Favorites Yuletide Echoes three new patriotic pieces Trombonium tap duet and guest artist Charles Cahill from Milwaukee. Admission free with offering collected.
George Backus son of Mr and Mrs Energ E Backus will graduate Techni ne and is listed in the 1943-44 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges released in April. He belongs to Sigma Chi at Georgia Tech and held multiple student leadership roles while participating in athletics and ROTC activities.
Margaret Mitchell wife of John Marsh of Atlanta urges housewives to save used fats and grease for sulfa drugs and glycerine for high explosives. She says turning in fats helps save soldiers and speeds victory by providing life saving medicine and powder.

County Agent R. E. Norris announces free slash pine seedlings for Lake County. Orders from 500 to 9 000 trees are available on a first come basis while supplies last, delivered express prepaid. Trees come from Olustee nursery, funded by Container Corporation of America for counties served. Tools and planting demonstrations provided by the Forest Service and State Forest Service. December and January best for planting after rains.

A northwest cold spell lingered in Florida with minimal town damage and bright poinsettias. It spared citrus but damaged truck crops from the Everglades to central regions, notably peppers, eggplant, cucumbers and beans. High ground escaped most harm while low areas near lakes saw losses.
The Mount Dora Chapter No. 103 will hold its regular meeting at the Masonic Hall at 8 P.M. on December 23. This will be the last stated meeting for 1943, and all members and visiting Star members are invited to attend.
State Comptroller J. M. Lee reports Florida tax collectors achieved record low delinquency in real estate taxes for 1942 with only 1.12 percent unpaid across 66 counties. Most counties reported under 2 percent delinquency, and only Hernando exceeded 5 percent.
A Christmas program and pageant were presented Sunday evening in the Methodist church before a large audience. Music directed by Mrs. C. M. Brown and Mrs. Paul Johnson featured a solo by Mrs. J. G. Ray Jr and the choir anthem Beautiful Message. The pageant portrayed the Christ mas story with the Holy Family, shepherds, and the Bethlehem Wise Men. Readers and performers included Lucille Harding, Mary Martha Simpson, Charles Javens, Patricia Johnson, and a large child and adult chorus.
Ration tokens will be ready Sunday February 27 with red tokens for meats and fats and blue tokens for processed foods. Retailers receive tokens from the bank around February 22 to use in ration changes. When in effect, ration book stamps gain ten point value each and will be validated across pages. Five processed food stamps worth 50 points start monthly, three meat fats stamps worth 30 points become valid biweekly.
The High School Glee Club of twenty voices directed by Manuel Sedano will perform a Christmas Cantata at First Methodist Church next Sunday at 7 30 PM. It is College Recognition Night and a social hour with both groups follows. Last year twenty six college students attended. this year in town students are hoped to attend if possible.
Karl Lehmann cannot attend the January 5 meeting of the Woman's Club but will address the group later. The entertainment committee promises a strong program, so members should plan to attend.
James Drawdy receives medical discharge from the Navy after an injury and returns to Mount Dora. Robert G. Richard Widmer is home on furlough from Shepherd Field Texas training since September and reports back by December 29. The Band Boosters Club held a Christmas party for band members at the Community Building on December 21. Gifts were handed out by Santa Claus and refreshments provided by a mothers committee led by Mrs. L. G. Simpson. Members sang carols and enjoyed a varied evening.
