Karl Lehmann Honored by Florida Chamber in Miami Beach

Karl Lehmann of Montverde, state director of the war bond program, received a plaque at the Florida State Chamber of Commerce banquet in Miami Beach. Senator Scott M. Loftin praised Florida’s bond drive results, noting totals of 510,145,007 in war bonds and stamps through October, with strong quotas met in drives one through three and leading the South in performance.

Lake County Scout Leaders Elected for 1944

Lake County Boy Scout officers for 1944 were elected at the Lake District meeting in Leesburg on December 7. M L Roberts of Groveland is district chairman, Frank J Banning of Tavares vice chairman, and Rev R C Kilborn of Eustis commissioner. District and sponsor representatives from Leesburg, Mount Dora, Eustis, Tavares, Umatilla, Groveland, Montverde, and Clermont were named, with annual council meetings set for Sanford on January 11.

Town voters cast 67 ballots with near unanimity for ballot names. Mayors, clerks, treasurers and council seats saw wide margins while a few write ins received isolated support. Park Commissioner and Board of Elections posts also filled by listed candidates.

Many housewives have neglected to salvage waste kitchen fats with only a little more than half being turned in. Collections during August dropped below July as fats are needed to make glycerine used in explosives and medicines for the battlefront.

Barker is Red Cross field director in England. Frederick Sleight, Lieut jg USNR, is home on leave from Trinidad where he directs finances for the Naval Operating Base. Ground crew of Fort The Wildcat keeps bomber ready for war

An Eighth Air Force Bomber Command station in England salutes its Fort The Wildcat crew led by Sgt Martin Bridges of Spartanburg South Carolina. The team worked nonstop to return the heavy bomber to flight after brutal missions over Germany and Nazi occupied Europe. Second in command Sgt Orville Brown, a Florida native, trained at Amarillo and Burbank. Other crewmen include Cpls Martin Girson John Thomas and Cameron Osborne from Pennsylvania Florida North Carolina and Pennsylvania respectively.

Daytime indoor and outdoor advertising lighting eliminated. nighttime hours reduced with no lighting after 10 p m local time. electric signs for directions may operate only while the business is open. lamp wattage reduced to the maximum practicable amount. Show window lighting not providing essential interior illumination also limited with no burning after 10 p m. wattage reduced to the maximum practicable amount.

Government expands fat salvage with added ration points

Government authorizes meat dealers to pay two ration points plus four cents per pound of used household fats for salvage. Stores Parker's Market and Puggly Wiggly accept fats in half pound lots to support war production. Fats fuel explosives medicines soaps and lubricants, with 108 million pounds salvaged in the past year and a need for at least double.
