Many housewives have neglected to salvage waste kitchen fats with only a little more than half being turned in. Collections during August dropped below July as fats are needed to make glycerine used in explosives and medicines for the battlefront.

An Eighth Air Force Bomber Command station in England salutes its Fort The Wildcat crew led by Sgt Martin Bridges of Spartanburg South Carolina. The team worked nonstop to return the heavy bomber to flight after brutal missions over Germany and Nazi occupied Europe. Second in command Sgt Orville Brown, a Florida native, trained at Amarillo and Burbank.
