Unusual Christmas Gift Tied to Stevenson in Samoa
In 1891 Robert Louis Stevenson drafted a deed gifting his birthday to Annie H. Ide of Vermont after she lamented missing a birthday party born on Christmas Day. Annie’s mother and Stevenson arranged a yearly celebration with gifts and fine garments until Stevenson's death in 1894. Annie later passed the birthday to her niece, with further lineage and royal names floated as potential future recipients.
