Reforestation Topic At Central Florida Chamber Breakfast

Central Florida Council of Chamber presidents and secretaries discussed forestry conservation and reforestation at a Mount Dora breakfast. Karl Lehmann highlighted timber loss and the State Forestry Department outlined a mobile picture exhibit and school nursery program. The plan includes a practical reforestation service for school boards and a Franco trans planting method.

Kiwanis Lunch Welcomes Mrs. C. A. Miles Speaker

Mrs. C. A. Miles addressed Kiwanis luncheon sharing lectures statewide for the State Forestry Department. Her talks focus on forest conservation and reforestation, noted as economically and aesthetically vital to the state. Kiwanis seeks a full attendance. Sixteen club members attended the Inter-Club meeting at Santando Country Club last Friday, the largest outside Orlando.

Pythian Sisters Bazaar Next Tuesday in Mount Dora

The YbLe Pythian Sisters announce a one day bazaar December 15 in the Kiwanis room near Hotel Mount Dora. An all day event from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm offers gifts foods jellies preserves potted plants and items for children and housewives. Proceeds aid Christmas cheer for the needy.

New Officers Named in Legion Auxiliary meeting

American Legion Auxiliary held a December 7 gathering with fourteen members and two visitors. Donations reported included Pensacola contributions, hospital cigarettes for Lake City soldiers, and $5 to Crippled Children Hospital in St Petersburg. Officers elected: President Mrs George Dahlin, 1st VP Mrs R L Hunter, 2nd VP Mrs Frank Griffiths, Secretary Mrs Grady Cooley, Treasurer Mrs O D Stephens, Chaplain Mrs Harold Coleman, Historian Mrs R C Conklin, Sgt at Arms Mrs W B Nelson. Eleven memberships renewed. Mrs Nelson and Mrs Dahlin served refreshments.

The Mount Dora Municipal Band invites all local musicians to a first practice tonight at Educational Hall at 8:00 P M. The band is organized by M A Burnell under the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by a local organization.

Opening Meeting Of Tourist Club In Mount Dora

The Tourist club held its first meeting at the Community Auditorium last Friday with a good audience. Mayor Lackey welcomed visitors and Mr Ferris presented two flags from the Mount Dora Out of Doors club. Pupils from Mount Dora Public School performed songs and a fairy playlet The Pool of the Willful Princess. The next meeting Janes December 18 program by Mount Dora Lodge Knights of Pythias is announced.

The junior play The Odd-Job Man at the Community auditorium Tuesday night received high praise for the cast and coaching by Miss Hubbell. Gould Sadler and Robert Quixley led strong performances with support from Lemuel Downs Alfred Neil Rhoda Simpson and others. Mount Dora Orchestra provided musical numbers while Mildred Neil Marjorie Crow J. F. Brantley and Jean Blanchard managed the event.

During an intermission at a junior play Mount Dora Scout Master Dr. R W Dickson awarded Honor Badges to Robert Mc Murray and J D Mosteller of Mount Dora Troop 1 for signalling. Mr and Mrs H S Masten grow fine strawberries on a half acre at Sunset Heights farm. They began picking on Thanksgiving and have gathered daily since then. The berries are large and luscious and impressed the Topic office before being delivered to the Hotel Mount Dora.
