Mount Dora Forming Municipal Band With Chamber Support

The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce plans to organize a year round Mount Dora Municipal Band funded by local citizens. M. A. Burnell will organize and train the band, with a kickoff meeting at the Chamber of Commerce office tonight. Donors including the First National Bank and many local businesses pledge 24 dollars for the coming year.

Charity Benefit At Mount Dora Theatre Event

Mount Dora High to Enter Florida Interscholastic Contests

Mount Dora High School will compete in Florida Interscholastic Contests along with other state schools. Principal D. D. Roseborough announces debate training, a selected one act play, and added focus on academics. Coaching is by Mrs. Nana Taylor Laney and Miss Affa W. Hubbell.

Council Funds Mount Dora Orchestra for Coming Season

The Town Council approved a $300 appropriation to support the Mount Dora Orchestra for weekly concerts and special events. O D Stephens and Harold Overhis er asked to place a Legion Post Honor Roll on the city hall grounds, facing Fifth Avenue, and the request was granted. The building ordinance amendment removing the north 108 feet of Block 59 from fire limits passed on final reading. Council members Drake Ferris Hackworth Morley Spencer attended. Simpson and Waltz were absent. Mayor Lackey and Clerk Johnson were present.

Mount Dora Seeks Musicians for Municipal Band

All residents of Mount Dora and nearby areas who can play instruments or wish to learn are urged to attend a special meeting tonight at 8:00 p.m. in the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce offices. Organized by M. A. Burnell, this session forms the Mount Dora Municipal Band.

Auto License Tags Now On Sale Here

State Motor Vehicle Department and local officers push Florida residents to buy 1932 license tags in December. Tourists may use home state tags, but employment or residence in Florida makes tags mandatory. Local agent Edgar E. Stokes notes 1932 tags are black with orange letters and back taxes may apply for cars operated in 1931 without tags. A 50 cent mail-in fee is unnecessary. local purchases provide quicker service and support the State School Fund for teachers.

Mount Dora Home Demonstration Shop to Open This Week

The Home Demonstration Shoppe of Mount Dora opens this week at Fourth and Donnelly in connection with Athlyn-Mary Dress and Fur Shoppe. Two additional shops will operate in Eustis and Clermont to showcase women’s crafts and homemade goods on a percent basis. The shops aim to aid county women by selling their baskets, flowers, jellies, candy, and other items while promoting community involvement ahead of Christmas.

The Junior play from the Class of 1933 will be staged in the Community auditorium on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The three act comedy The Odd Job Man tells of Michael Thorne who finds work as an odd-job man at the Gordon home, causing comic misadventures that end with his recall by John Gordon.

Interest In League Drive Reaches Peak At Epworth Meeting

Eighty four members attended last Sunday's Epworth League gathering. Officials report high interest and near 100 members expected next Sunday. A program is planned and a group photograph will be taken. The meeting starts at 6 15 in the church parlors, not in the League rooms, marking the drive’s final Sunday and the captain’s survey of teams.

Roy Christopher Earns Eagle Scout Award in Central Florida

On November 27, 1931 at the central Florida District Court of Honor in Orlando, Roy Christopher of Troop No. 1 Mount Dora received the Eagle badge. Two other scouts from Tavares and Winter Park also earned Eagle, marking the largest trio of Eagles issued in a single session by the Central Florida Council Court of Honor.

Dr. John J. Tigert to Speak at Lake County Council

Dr. John J. Tigert president of the University of Florida will speak Friday December 11 at 2:00 pm at the County Court House in Tavares. The Lake County Council formed to promote White House Conference on child health and protection will host a talk on health social welfare and education. The program invites the public and aims to aid service clubs Parent-Teacher associations health clubs and other community groups. Lake County Council officers include S. H. Troublesome weed starting in Lake Dora

Mr Earl Gilbert reports water hyacinth beginning in Lake Dora on the northwest side near Tavares and urges early cleanup before it spreads and blocks water traffic. He will clear the weed if an interested party covers the cost, likely not exceeding ten dollars, and a thorough patrol of the lake is advised to prevent further growth.

Dr Dickson Hosts Thanksgiving Youth Event at Mount Dora

Dr. R. W. Dickson provided a day of recreation for Mount Dora youths by using the Yacht Club for Thanksgiving. An orchestra entertained attendees at the open house with dancing and games. Evening activities continued at his home with more amusement and dancing.
