High Goal Set For Christmas Seals High Goal Set For Christmas Seals

The 35th anniversary of the American Christmas seal sale is observed on December 9. Miss Emily P. Bissell organized the first sale in Wilmington in 1907 to fund a tuberculosis hospital, raising $3,000. By 1908 a nationwide drive raised $135,000, and 1909 yielded about a quarter million dollars. The nationwide goal for this year is $8,000,000 as the tuberculosis movement expands nationwide through 1,700 associated groups. In Mount Dora and Lake County the sale funds year round tuberculosis education, diagnosis, treatment, and isolation efforts.
