Lake County sees November bonds and stamps sales totaling 76 261 70 with December 1 balance 1 516 995 09. Leesburg leads with 30 103 55 from a 27 850 quota followed by Eustis Clermont Mount Dora and other towns boosting post office and bank purchases across the county. Local figures credit theatre promotions and cooperative bank and post office efforts for meeting and surpassing many town quotas.

Lake County Tax Collection Survey Shows Strong November

Lake County and seven towns report solid November tax receipts with over half of 1942 rolls paid. Mount Dora leads at 52 percent of 27 700, 1941 taxes 90 percent paid. Eustis 57 323 and Clermont about 50 percent. Leesburg reports 9 000 collected. Groveland and other towns cite generally good collections as the 1942 roll nears full open.

Lake District Central Florida Boy Scout Council Annual Meet

About 225 attendees from across the county gathered at the Community Building for the Lake District annual meeting. The program featured troop reports, a Court of Honor with 30 Mount Dora participants earning merit badges, films on RAF training and London raids, and the presentation of a coveted emblem. Officers for the coming year were elected, with M. L. Roberts as chairman and W. J. Barker as county commissioner among others.

John J West 83 prominent citizen dies after lingering illness

John J. West 83 longtime Mount Dora resident died Wednesday night after a long illness. Services were held Friday at Community Congregational Church with burial in Forest Cemetery. He served as deacon, bank director, and community leader and is survived by daughter Elizabeth F. West.

Death of Mrs Susie L White Prompts Jacksonville Family Rota

George J White and family traveled to Jacksonville after the passing of Mrs Susie L White aged 78. Longtime Jacksonville resident and noted Methodist singer, she came from Boston and celebrated a 56 year marriage. Survivors include J W White husband and several children and ten grandchildren. Post Office to Stay Open Thursday Through Christmas
