Spring brings evening lawn bowling to lighted alleys

Walter R. Sayrs Dies On Sunday

Walter R. Sayrs a longtime Tangerine resident died Sunday at age 81. A native of Blanchester Ohio he taught in Greene and Beaver counties and in Cincinnati schools before retiring in 1950. He was active in the Tangerine Improvement Society Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church and the Southwestern Music Teacher’s Assn. He is survived by his wife Orpha Lawrence a son Donovan L. Sayrs a daughter Mrs. Fred W. Pressler and five grandchildren. Services were held at Rehbaum Chapel and burial will be in Beaver Cemetery after Friday services.

Direct Distance Dialing Expands in Central Florida

Florida Telephone Corporation reports growing use of direct distance dialing. In March nearly half of long distance calls were direct with 543,695 total calls and 251,988 dialed directly. Central areas like Eustis Mount Dora Tavares and Umatilla show about 70 percent direct dialing. FTC station count rose from 61,200 on January 1 1964 to over 62,000 today.

Weekend Church Activities Highlight Lake County Federation

The Lake County Choir Federation met at Mt. Olive AME Church with a large turnout from Lake County Apopka and Tangerine. Rev. Harris preached on Come see a man that has told me everything. A Woman's Day program led by Mrs. Guest from Tampa is planned for Sunday to benefit the still unpaid church building. Milner Rosenwald School announced 1964 65 teaching staff including Ruthie L. Alexander and Jimmie B. Bell with several reappointments. A Mary Baker Eddy quote closes the note on education and crime.
