Former Mount Dora Resident Marian Evans Duncan Dies

Marian Evans Duncan 83, longtime Mount Dora resident and Lake County pioneer, died Friday in Waterman Memorial Hospital. Services were held Sunday at Tavares Methodist Church with interment in Tavares. Survived by four sons Leonard Carl Weythree Banks Duncan two daughters Miss Duncan and Mrs Dorothy Rogers one brother E A Peet Oxford and Mrs Cora P Hammond of Tavares.

A misaddressed letter shows there is another Mount Dora in the United States. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Taylor of New Hampshire forwarded the mail to New Mexico, where another Mount Dora exists. The Taylors ultimately received their mail.

Monday Social Club Bridge and Five Hundred Winners

Monday Social Club played five tables of bridge and three of five hundred. Mrs. Angus McDonald had the high bridge hand and Mrs. Swort won five hundred. Next meeting hostesses will be Mrs. Caley for bridge and Mrs. Best for five hundred.

Lions Club April Meeting and Zone Event Highlights

The April 18 combined meeting with a Zone gathering featured guest J B Blanton and inducted Wayne Moon with remarks by District Governor Alvarez. Tom Davis screened color films from the Philadelphia convention as Sarasota plans loom with at least nine delegates. The club voted to lift the fines cap for a fundraiser and teased a Lake County Country Club dance on April 26 with $1.20 for nonpaying attendees and a plea to bring guests and foldable chairs.

Bridgmans to Spend Summer in Wollaston Massachusetts

Mr and Mrs Frank E Bridgman of 760 Tremain Street will depart Friday or Saturday for Wollaston Massachusetts to spend the summer. Bridgman serves as publicity chairman and vice president of the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club which is 19 years old with 189 members the largest enrollment in its history. Alfred Maben will handle publicity duties during Mr Bridgmans absence.

Anna Margaret White and John Daniel Pease Jr wed in a candlelit ceremony at the First Methodist Church Mount Dora on April 19 with Rev. George C. Gibson officiating. The bride wore slipper satin with seed pearl details and an orange blossom tiara. The groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Pease and will reside in Mount Dora. Out-of-town guests included C. V. Plymouth Dells Log Describes Mount Dora to Sanford Boat Trip

Six a.m. April 3, Mr. and Mrs. L A Tibbitts and Richard Snipes Jr. left Mt. Dora in the Plymouth Dells for Sanford Boat Works for summer housing. The voyage included Dora Canal, Lake Eustis, Haines Creek, Lake Griffin, Oklawaha River, and the St Johns with wildlife sights, a bridge delay at Lake Monroe, and a return to Mt. Dora.

Legion Announces Dedication of Home

At a memorial association meeting the Legion voted to begin construction of two wings for the new buildingone 40 by 8 hall and a kitchen storage and toilet wing. Seven thousand dollars on hand should cover much of the cost with labor donated by Legionaires and materials from Brown Builders Supply at cost. Bill Prinz will lend a concrete mixer and truck for hauling. Site work set to start soon.

Legion Memorial fund drive ends with prize drawing

The second drive to fund the Legion Memorial home closed with a prize drawing at Donnelly Park raising 1502 dollars. Legion teams finished first through fourth as High, Bondish, Overhizer, and Carr. New officers were installed and time limits for GI insurance and terminal leave bonds extended.

Thomas H. Cooley, Mount Dora American Legion member, was elected commander of District No. 6 at the 29th annual state convention in Miami. District 6 covers 24 posts in six counties Florida wide. A major future program focus is hospital facilities, notably for neurotic care, with no state facility for veterans mental health under existing rules.
