The Lake County Press Association held a meeting Monday at the Sylvan Shores Hotel with fourteen editors present representing all but one weekly paper in the county. Don Lochner of Clermont Press presided. Edith Keller of Mount Dora Topic was elected secretary. The group discussed the 1938 National Editorial Association convention and future meetings, and thanked Mr and Mrs Stein for hospitality and the dinner.
The 75th anniversary of Gettysburg marks unity as a US minted half dollar features the Confederate flag. The obverse shows Union and Confederate soldiers with United States of America Blue and Gray Reunion. The reverse displays the Great Shield and Stars and Bars. Only 50 000 coins issued, most sold. no reissue.
Danbury Connecticut resident William M Ford has purchased a 140 by 140 foot lot at Alexander and Twelfth streets and started building a bungalow home. J J West Helty Company sold the land. contractor is believed to be Mr Miller of Leesburg. Ford plans to reside permanently after fall relocation with plans for concrete and brick construction. Mount Dora’s growth as a residential town continues with ten lots sold this season for homes already built or to be built.
Mrs. Clara S. Gifford, who fell in her Fifth Avenue home, broke her hip and spent time at Lake County Medical Center in Umatilla. She was moved to Mount Dora Hospital then returned home for ongoing care and strength building as doctors and nurses praised her progress.
The Live Wire Patrol held a regular meeting with six girls present. Four worked on their five points of health for second class while two worked on badges. The Patrol continues work on horse woman. Maxine Clery, Reporter.
Mr Steinmetz presented Florida color films at Lakeside as the finals of the second half drew a large crowd. His bowling shots during play impressed the audience, and picture making remains a hobby, with framed team photos from the New Smyrna match set to start a club collection.

Mrs. J. G. Ray's Bo-Peep Kindergarten ended its season with a picnic for the children on Thursday marking a happy close to the year.
The State Horticulture Society schedules its annual winter meeting in Winter Haven with tours to Cypress Gardens and Lake Alfred Citrus Experiment Station. The Florida Rose Society will sponsor a flower show and a tour to Bartow’s rose garden hosted by Winter Haven ladies. Judge Spessard Holland and other speakers are expected at the opening session Tuesday April 12 at 8 p.m.
Lake County Judge A. S. Herlong Jr. spoke on probate court work at the Kiwanis luncheon. Commander Sidney Spain and visiting Kiwanians Engelhard Haviland Radcliffe Denbroder attended with Lt. Governor J. Edward Baker. Radcliffe celebrated his 83rd birthday as Jack Simpson won the attendance prize. March honor roll includes many members such as Tom Cooley Randall Johnson Burkart Seckinger Brown Crane and Story.
Miss Angie Ryan a Western Union telegraph operator long with this office was moved to the Eau Gallie office a year ago. She is spending a few days visiting Mount Dora friends en route to Crescent City Florida where she has been transferred to assume duties next week.

Judge Elwyn Thomas senior Ninth Judicial Circuit official visits Mount Dora to seek bar and personal support for the Supreme Court vacancy created by Chief Justice Ellis retirement. He has served thirteen years on the Circuit Court bench and was reelected twice. Born near Fort Pierce on the Indian River, he earned a law degree at Stetson and served as city attorney in Fort Pierce and Vero Beach.
The Southeastern Easter ceremony sponsored by the Masons in Jacksonville at the Ribault Monument near Mayport is set for 5 30 Sunday morning April 17. Knights Templar and other Masonic bodies reenact events linked to the massacre of the French Huguenots at Ribault. A motorcade departs Hemming Park at 4 15 a m escorted by Duval County Road Patrol and Jacksonville police.
Sunday evening about 7 00 PM three Negro boys riding a bicycle were struck by an automobile half a mile beyond Sorrento. They were rushed to Mount Dora and then Lake County Hospital. The driver tried to miss them, skidded, and went into a ditch. Names unavailable.
ADS ARE READ "C" who used a classified ad in last week's Topic wondered at the time if there would be any reply. To date five replies have been sent in care of the Topic, one of which has come in since "C" called. This simply goes to prove that classified or want ads are read.
Clermont started the plan for this summer with Thursday closings on March 31. Umatilla begins Thursday April 7. Mount Dora plans to start in May. other towns have not yet set dates.

Mrs H A Robie of Mount Dora, one of its early pioneers, spent last week in town with her sons Edward H Robie in New York and Theodore M Robie in Chicago. The family toured South Florida before returning north. They recalled the Robie place south of town and noted the camphor tree’s size, surviving orange trees, and land divisions affecting the original homestead.
Dr. Rietz and Frank Hadlock of Mount Dora won high prizes at the Yacht Club bridge match last week in the north south division. Stanley Nelson and O K Dana of Eustis took east west honors.
The King's Daughters announce an April food sale on Saturday at the old stand 418 Donnelly avenue next to the Topic office. Proceeds fund the circle's charitable work. The sale opens at 9 o'clock with items due by opening time. this may be the final sale of the season if emergencies occur.

The PTA meeting highlighted Mrs Frank Morton of Orlando speaking on The National Child. Barbara Hoffman, Red Cross secretary from Washington DC, arrived in Lake County on Saturday to aid building up county activities. She met representatives from local branches and will work with county commissioners to plan a county unit budget and program.
Marcus C. Fagg, superintendent of the Florida Children's Home, will speak at Montverde Community Church at 10 Sunday morning. Known as "Daddy" Fagg, the speaker had been set for November but canceled then. his new appointment replaces the canceled engagement and the public is invited.
