Community Development Forum Planned for April 19

Mount Dora Kiwanis Club announces a town development forum April 19 in the Community Building. Harry Adler of Candeub Fleissig Adley & Associates will speak, followed by a panel of local business and professionals and an audience Q and A. White Elephant Auction Set By Lions In April

Mount Dora Lions Club hosts the eighth annual White Elephant Auction at Gilbert Park starting 1 p.m. Saturday April 10 with a 4 p.m. beef barbecue dinner. Proceeds fund eyesight conservation, eye exams, glasses for those in need, glaucoma clinics, and support for the Florida Eye Bank.

Mount Dora Art Show Draws 500 Attendees

More than 500 visitors attended the Mount Dora Art League 39th annual outdoor show. E. L. Merryman of Sherpes won the door prize oil painting by Margaret Tietjen. 162 paintings were displayed by club members and visiting artists from Orlando and Sanford, with a children’s exhibit earning ribbons and mentions for several young artists.

Flower Show Tops Lake County Fair Exhibits

The 17th annual Flower Show highlighted the Lake County Fair with more than 1200 entries and orchids displayed by Mrs. Owen Conner of Lakes and Hills Garden Club Mount Dora. Ninety eight percent of the 950 club members attended the show with 85 judges statewide. Over 67 thousand visitors came during Fair week, Friday set an all time daily attend record at 16,304.

12th Annual Sailing Regatta Set Sunday On Lake Dora

The Mount Dora Yacht Club and Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce host a Sunday regatta on Lake Dora starting 10 am with 16 classes. Lake District Camporee by Boy Scouts Planned at Camp La-Na-Che

The Lake District Camporee of the Boy Scouts of America will be held Friday to Sunday at Camp La-Na-Che with several hundred county Scouts, including many from Mount Dora. Pierce Tyson directs the event attracting over 50 adult leaders. Activities include Skill-a-rama, swimming, signaling, first aid, knot tying, compass work, cross-country, tug of war, and nature treasure hunts.
