In Mount Carmel a 22 pound grass carp led the Four Ten Outdoors tournament during its grand opening weekend. Justin Spencer fished two grass carp, 20 pounds and 22 pounds, with a bow in a flooded Wabash field. Erick Monts helped haul the catches as Spencer celebrated.
The Southern Illinois Rights Project in Carbondale drafts a community bill of rights to curb hydraulic fracturing. The group plans a Saturday Town Square Pavilion rally to present the document and launch a petition urging the Jackson County Board to adopt the proposal. Al Parr says the aims include protecting residents and the environment from fracking expansion.
