Hydroponic strawberry patch brings berries to late summer
In Princeton Indiana Red Hut operates a hydroponic U pick berry patch on Ind 64. Keith Stocke and his wife Lois run about 20 000 plants on a half acre using Hydro Stackers vertical columns and rotating pods. They began after a family visit to Texas and aim to extend picking through the first frost. The system uses minimal water with pH balanced nutrients and weed matting to deter birds. U pick customers receive scissors and baskets with gloves. Opening hours run 8 am to 6 pm weekdays and weekends, with seasonal maintenance planned after frost.

Planting Bearded Iris Through Late Summer in Illinois
University of Illinois Extension horticulture educator Elizabeth Wahle advises planting bearded iris in late summer to early fall after flowering, or immediately for containerized irises. Dividing every three to four years, digging one clump at a time, and proper rhizome care keep plants productive and well spaced in sunlit, well-drained soil.
