City to end TIF and start new district expanding revenue
Mount Carmel City Council voted to let the current tax increment financing district expire at year end and begin a new expanded TIF. Moran Development consultant Keith Moran said the change will shift roughly 250000 in property tax revenue to local schools and colleges next year. The council also approved a 170000 tax abatement to retire 1999 water bonds and reported progress on cleaning 37 blighted properties.

District 348 reaches Chromebook goal through donations
Mount Carmel High School Alumni Foundation donated chromebooks totaling eight units, bringing district procurement to 120 under the Rotary Chromebook Challenge. Contributions from Kiwanis, churches, Lions Club, and individuals plus a Walmart grant push the goal. The board approved bids for a new International bus at 77528 and a Suburban at 34248, financed over five years, with HVAC upgrades discussed for the high school and a roof repair plan for the middle school.

They are accused of January sexual assault and were arrested May 28 on suspicion of felony criminal sexual assault. Prosecution rests with Illinois State's Attorney Appellate office due to recusal by Cassandra Goldman. Matt Gotten and David Rands serve as appellate prosecutors. Illinois State Police lead the investigation. Class 1 felony carries four to 15 years.
