Safe Haven to open in Carmi for women and children
Safe Haven, a 16-bed, five bedroom shelter for women and children in Carmi, opens Aug 19 with secured access, an 8 pm curfew, and 24 hour fire and security systems. Volunteers run the facility, a 120 day short term refuge with possible 60 day extensions, funded by donations and seeking supplies. Snap On reunion gathers former Mount Carmel workers
Peggy Cummins Cindy Hills and Jack Perry organize a Snap On plant reunion for August 23 at 2 PM in Mount Carmel Park Shelter House. They recall a close knit workforce likened to a family with memories from 1978 and a 75th anniversary open house. Families vendors and laid off or deceased workers are invited. Attendees bring chairs and photos while Snap On tools and a future reunion survey are planned.
