Mount Airy attorney Charles Randleman was appointed to the North Carolina General Assembly by Governor Luther Hodges. Beloved Teacher Mrs Mabel Absher Foy Dies at 71
Mrs. Mabel Absher Foy, 71, retired Mount Airy schoolteacher, died at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, at 1 a.m. Wednesday after three weeks as a patient. Born June 9, 1885 in Ashe County, she taught first grade and led North Main Street School in Granite City and served about 35 years in Mount Airy schools. She lived with daughter Mrs Walter B Moss in Greenville. survived by two daughters, six grandchildren, and a son Major Frank Foy lost in World War II. Funeral at First Baptist Church with Rev. Preston Taylor officiating and burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

The Mount Airy Horse Show at Veterans Memorial Park on June 29 and 30 features 35 classes across three performances. Friday 8 p.m. offers 13 classes, Saturday 1 30 p.m. 10 classes, and finals Saturday 8 p.m. include 12 classes with seven classes in total per performance. A rare hunter division appears with three hunter classes, plus a pony prize and a Funny Ford act by Bill Bledsoe. Proceeds support Mount Airy High School health recreation and athletics.

Two Virginia Teens Sentenced for Road Term Damage
Judge R S Westmoreland in Recorder's Court sentenced Eugene Puckett 16 and Edsel Puckett 18 of Ararat Virginia to six months on the road for damaging property at the Snack Bar on North South Street. Both appealed to Superior Court and were released on 300 bond each. Ramey Young 20 Bennett 17 Clyde Fayne 18 were found not guilty on the same charges. Hub caps found in the car were noted as from different vehicles.
