A five year old boy was fatally injured near Pinnacle Friday when struck by a car driven by John Wayne Mover. The accident occurred two miles east of Shoals in Surry County as the child returned from a roadside mailbox. The driver was not sighted until three feet away. The boy was the son of Mr and Mrs Marshall Jessup and the family includes two siblings. Funeral services were held at Friends Union Church with burial in the church cemetery.

High Point College freshman Miss Anne Kerr won the 1956 beauty crown in a Jaycees sponsored contest at Memorial Auditorium. The 20 year old brunette measured 84-24-34 and weighed 120 pounds at five feet five inches tall. An ovation on democracy in the talent portion helped secure her victory.

Local Man Stung by South American Scorpion
Davis Smith a 23 year old man was stung on both middle fingers by a South American scorpion while handling bananas at a city supermarket. He received emergency treatment at Dobson Clinic for two days with counteracting medicine and survived. The scorpion was killed and kept in alcohol. He has just returned from the Army and lives on Maple Street with his wife and child.

Ten tires and two wheel sets along with two fender skirt sets were stolen from new Fords in the Granite City Motor Co. lot on Virginia Street. Police chased a 1955 Ford noted as Virginia 466033 to Kenneth Millard Ayers 17 of Ararat Virginia. he was arrested and released on bond. Five tires and wheels plus two skirt sets recovered. five tires still missing.
