Mule Runs Away With 70 Year Old Farmer Monday
John Willard aged 70 of Mount Airy route 1 was injured when a mule dragging a cultivator bolted across Highway 52. He suffered serious injuries with flesh loss on arms hands and legs and was hospitalized in Winston-Salem Baptisl Hospital. Willard has farmed on Sam Joyce's land for 17 years.

M Q Snow chair man of the Surry County Board of County Commissioners said the 1955 56 tax rate will stay at 1 dollar per 100 assessed value despite other counties raising rates for the new fiscal year. Commissioners planned a tentative budget last Monday but agencies had not submitted needs and no action was taken. The next meeting is set for July 4 at 10 a m in Dobson. Mount Airy district residents pay an extra 15 cent school tax plus another tax to retire bonds for the new hospital.
