Jack Tilley Wins Swift Essay Contest

Rites Held For John A Frans
Funeral services were held for John A Frans 66 of Winston-Salem at New Friendship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday morning after years of declining health. Born in Stokes County he lived in Winston-Salem 46 years and was a retired dairyman. He married Ollie Pope in 1918 and is survived by a daughter, a grandchild, two brothers and a sister.

Surry Man Robbed By Masked Bandit
A 68 year old Surry storekeeper, Charlie Coleman, reported a masked white man robbed him of 121 dollars in one wallet at about 8 pm Saturday outside his Dobson Route 1 Haystack Road shop. He said the man seized him, no weapon seen, left with three one dollar bill bundles. Investigators hold few details beyond medium height, white, wearing a white mask. Coleman is a World War I veteran living alone. officers termed him unable to fully describe the robber.
