Car Crash Near Mount Airy Sends Four To Hospital
A collision on Highway 52 four miles north of Mount Airy involved a Mount Airy delivery youth and a Florida family from Fort Pierce. Alfred Goins, 19, was taken to Baptist Hospital Winston-Salem in grave condition with severe injuries. The Layfields Ruby 51 and Stella 9, and R. Layfield 61 were also hospitalized with multiple injuries. Alfred Goins remained unconscious. Investigators Josh Howell and J. P. Rhyne said the Goins youth failed to navigate a curve and struck the Layfield car head on. The Goins pickup carried coal. two Moody ambulances transported the victims.

Dr. Lewis D. Telle, formerly of this city, was commissioned as a major in the U S Army Medical Corps and began active duty at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio on December 29. He previously served at Martin Memorial Hospital until 1950, then five years in surgery at Circle Veterans Administration Hospital in Cleveland.
