Mildred Patterson 83 of Lowgap route 1 died at 5 35 p m Thursday at her daughter’s home after a week long illness. She was the daughter of Kinny and Delia Lowe and wife of Bart Patterson. Funeral services were held Saturday at Ivy Green Baptist Church with Rev. Delmar Hodges officiating. Burial in the family cemetery near Lowgap.

Longtime Surry County minister Mrs Robertson dies
Mrs. Robertson born 1867 in Surry County daughter of John Marion and Christine Sparger Marshall. She taught at 18 and helped establish White Plains graded school, led Friends Meetings for 60 years, served as postmistress from 1922, and supported Guilford College. Survived by two daughters and four sons, with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral at White Plains Friends Meeting House conducted by local and yearly meeting pastors.

Coy Elmer Ramey, 31, was arrested Sunday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff E. L. Quesinberry after residents complained of racing on the highway. No Marriage Licenses Issued During Christmas

Fire destroys Surry County home on McBride Road
A two story six room farmhouse on McBride Road near Mount Airy burned early Saturday morning. Mrs Ella Hall was away in Winston-Salem leaving the family of three adults and a one year old child in the house. Judy Kirkman was upstairs and burned her feet escaping. The stove overheated and the chimney caught fire. Firemen saved a nearby building with meat eggs and hay worth over 2000 dollars. The home had some insurance. The family is staying with relatives.
