Police Recover Farmer's Meat
Two youths about 20 from Elkin county were arrested in this city last Friday on theft charges. Officers said a night watch followed them after a car with a warm engine was found parked, containing two shoulders and a ham. They attempted to sell the meat to a local dealer. meat was returned to the farmer near Elkin.

Gorrell's Warehouse Roof Collapses Under Ice Weight
In Winston-Salem on December 18 a blizzard left twenty inches of snow with drifts and dry powder. The roof of Gorrell's Warehouse at Sixth and Trade collapsed, causing thousands in damage. Prince Albert Storage on Second and Chestnut was also crushed and condemned. Fire crews battled ice as crews tried to save the building before the roof failed, and nearby streets were cordoned off for safety.

William W. Hampton 72 of Dobson died last Sunday at Martin Memorial Hospital after an operation. Funeral services were held at Dobson Baptist Church. A former state senator and U S commissioner, he served in the state house and as deputy internal revenue collector. Survived by wife Emma Shore Hampton and two sons Wade B Hampton and Henry C Hampton.

Mr R V Deverle left the hospital after two months of treatment with improved condition. The six victims of the car wreck on Fancy Gap road are all doing nicely. Miss Reta McKenzie and Harry Wilson are able to be up and around and will return home in a few days.
