The editor notes that state governments across the 48 states spent 1.742 billion dollars in 1947, averaging about 12.23 dollars per person. Moulton will wear Christmas attire next month as chamber plans Christmas lights from December 11 to January 2.

Census Bureau estimates Texas at 7 230 000 residents in 1948, up 26 000 from 1947. The 1940 census recorded 6 414 824 people, keeping Texas sixth in state population.

The Moulton Home Demonstration Club held its regular meeting on Wednesday November 3 at the home of Mrs. Frank Kouba.
Mr and Mrs Joe Krause of Witting marked their twenty fifth wedding anniversary on Saturday October 30 with a dance at Witting Park attended by many friends.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Steino cher have been notified by the war department that the body of their son Pvt Emil Steino cher who was killed in action in Italy during World War II is en route to the states Re interment will be made in the Catholic Cemetery.
The Moulton P T A will hold its regular meeting in the local gym on Wednesday at 7 30 P M. An interesting program has been arranged by Mrs Chovanetz and Mr Mer rem. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Texas swung Democratic by a heavy margin with Governor Jes ter defeating his Republican opponent eight to one. Lyndon John son defeated Jack Porter two to one for the United States Senate.
In Lavaca County several oil actions are noted. Oil Drilling Inc plans a No 1 Joe Kahanek well to 9000 feet in the M Muldoon survey, northwest of the southeast line and northeast of Ragsdale Creek. A 1 R. D. Ragsdale well to 9000 feet was announced near the Vienna field in the James Ryan survey. Also Wesley W West and Atlanti Royalty Corp of Houston locate No 2 Edward A Sibley two miles east-southeast of the Hope gas field on a 1275 acre lease with a target depth of 5500 feet.
Mrs Hilda Starke daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Flessner and Lee Bauer son of Mr and Mrs Emil Bauer were united in marriage at Zion s Lutheran Church in Moulton Monday October 25 at 2 00 PM Rev K Windecker officiating Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride s parents home.
Evergreen School hosted its annual chili supper and game party on Tuesday October 26 drawing a large crowd and a clear over one hundred dollars for the PTC treasury.
George Mehner 50 of Luling former Kotzebue Drug Store manager died suddenly in Austin while attending the Longhorn SMU game. Burial was in Luling. Survived by widow Bertha Papacek, two daughters Maureen and Dorothy Jane, mother Mrs Kate Mehner, sister Mrs Herbert Cook, brothers Herbert, Carl, and Will Mehner.
Lavaca County voters rejected a 750000 road bond measure in a Tuesday special election by 168 votes with 2818 in favor and 1661 against. Earlier same day the county's conservation program gathered leaders to review 1949 practices and funding, noting 1948 allotments of 62015 with 1300 farmers participating and an expected 83000 for 1949.
Effective November 13 1948 offices in the Lavaca County Court House will close at 12 90 noon and stay closed for the remainder of each Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Adolph Ermis observed their twenty fifth wedding anniversary Saturday evening. A delicious dinner was served to a number of relatives and friends. The Ermis have three sons Weldon of Freeport Texas Manuel and Dennis at home and received many beautiful gifts.
Active members of the Moulton Fire Department and their families were honored with an appreciation chicken dinner at noon. The fete was sponsored by friends of the fire department. The boys are indeed grateful for this fine fete.
Bill Novosad becomes owner of the E. R. Store in Moulton after a deal last week. The Kotzebues operated the shop since 1938 and built a reputation for fair dealing and steady service to customers.
