Pera Lee Huber aged 17 of near Moulton died in a car crash on Highway 200 west of Shiner on Thursday night November 4. Funeral services were held November 6 at United Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner. Edwin J. Hlosek, 18, also injured, survived the wreck.
Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Kramerbauer of Deming New Mexico celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday October 30 at the home of their son-in law and daughter Mr. and Mrs W P Hodgkins. A turkey dinner and many gifts followed. They have one son Victor G Kramerbauer in Osaka Japan and three daughters Doris Jean Elsie Mae and Mrs W P Hoggins all of Deming.
The Komensky 4-H club boys met on Wednesday October 27 with Mr Lindsey Pueblo county agent Lavaca county present. Lindsey demonstrated leather tooling and carving to the group. The next meeting is scheduled for the fourth Wednesday in November.
The Evergreen P T C met on Thursday November 4 and added ten members bringing total to ninety three, possibly a historic high. A party followed the meeting and the next gathering is set for Thursday December 2.
Announcement from Superintendent Claude Mullins says the Lavaca County unit of the Texas State Teachers Association will hold a meeting on Saturday November 13 at 10 00 A M in Hallettsville High School Gymnasium. All S T A members are urged to attend.
Mr. Herbert J. Dierschke and family and Miss Jeanette Dierschke returned Tuesday from Rowena where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hohensee and other relatives. They also visited Ballinger and attended a performance of Daily Bros. Show at San Angelo.
Tom H. Tousek has assumed the managerial duties at the Piggly Wiggly store succeeding prior leadership. He will oversee daily operations, staff scheduling and customer service improvements.
Edwin Mikulencak has agreed to purchase J. T. Jaeggli & Son Appliance, taking over the business Saturday after years with the firm. Friends wish him success as new owner.
The Oak Grove 4-H group met with Home Demonstration agent Mrs. Noah on October 28 to form a new club. Officers elected include President Helen Henrikhs, Vice President Ida Mae Kubicek, Secretary Treasurer Elrose Ann Anderle, and Reporter Betty Jane Raab. Members will choose sewing as their project.
Mrs Joe Dougherty with children and Mrs Clara Jarosek of Kingsville join Mrs B Dougherty and Rev Bernard Dougherty of LaFeria and Mrs Don Harris of Austin in visiting Mr and Mrs Lee Jarosek on Monday. They also attended the Freytag Michalec wedding.
Composer Franz Lehar who wrote The Merry Widow and many popular waltzes died at his Austrian home at age 78. A native of Hungary he gained world renown for his operettas and songs.
The DeKalb Hybrid Corn Association held its first Texas banquet in Waco on October 28. Lavaca county contestants Julius Hajek Frank Hanslik and Henry Chudej placed first through third with yields of 64.52 57.02 and 52.93 bushels per acre on DeKalb 1025 1002 and 1020 corn respectively. The top Texas grower was A L Rolf of Eagle Take with 100.49 bushels per acre.
The Regular Army adds 20 year old Adolph C. Boehm son of Mr and Mrs A Boehm of Moulton to its ranks after enlisting at Fort Sam Houston. This brief notice confirms his two year enlistment term.
The Moulton High School senior class met November 5 with President Venice Dariick presiding. They voted to serve a plate lunch at the Light Office on November 20 and set December 5 for the three act senior play. Class colors are green and White the flower carnation and motto In Ourselves our Future Lies. The meeting adjourned with no further business.
The Moulton Public School honor roll lists students achieving at least 90 percent in all subjects. First grade includes Donnie Lee Jaroszeweski. ninth Mary Lee Jaroszek and Velma Johnson. tenth Roselyn Kotzebue and June Barnett. eleventh Ja Nell Pietsch. twelfth Venice Darilek Jo Ann Eberhard Eugenia Ermis Beatrice Flessner Iva Mae Kuhen Emily Krejci Lillie Kocian Rose Nell Orts.
We thank neighbors relatives and friends who assisted us during the long illness and at the death of our beloved wife mother and grandmother Mrs Lee Wagner. We are grateful to Rev K Windecker Rev Joseph Kopp Dr Hugo J Strieder and hospital staff and to all who helped and sent flowers. Lee Wagner Mr and Mrs Frank Albrecht Kirby Lee and Calvin Joe.
Mrs Lee Wagner of Moulton died November 4 at 1 30 PM in Dr Hugo J Strieder hospital. Funeral was November 6 at Smith Funeral Chapel with burial in Moulton City Cemetery. She was 56 and is survived by husband Lee Wagner daughter Mrs Frank Albrecht two grandsons six brothers and two sisters. Jaegeli retires from active business in Moulton after nearly fifty years with son James joining in later years.
Water-borne imports of general merchandise at Texas ports totaled 16 200 000 in June, up 60 percent from May, according to Census data. Water-borne exports declined 22 percent to 78 800 000 in September, below the 1947 monthly average by per cent.
The Catholic school club held its regular meeting last Wednesday with a program by the 1st and 2nd grades. Rev. Matocha led a prayer to open. Attendance prize went to the 1st and 2nd grades and the club bought a duplicator and an electric record player for the school.
An 8 pound 107 ounce son named Frank Wayne Machicek was born to Mr and Mrs Frank Machicek near Moulton at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital in Moulton on Wednesday November 3 at 5 55 PM.
W H Schedde of Cuero a representative for Colgate Palmolive Peet Co wins first prize a 37.50 US Savings Bond in the July August feature contest for salesmen. Schedde is the son of Mr and Mrs Wm H Schedde of Moulton.
Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston Texas receives authorization to hire 20 additional civilian nurses to support Regular Army staff. Registered nurses who are graduates of a three year residential nursing program from an approved school may qualify for federal civil service positions with a minimum salary of 2974.80 dollars per year.
The Texas highway department awarded a 468466 dollar contract for 11.5 miles of Highway 3 in Gonzales County. Bidders T C Cage and Dean Skinner of San Antonio and Austin won. Construction runs five miles west of Gonzales to the Guadalupe County line, with straightening curves, new culverts, and paving. The route links Houston and San Antonio and Guadalupe County extension is surveyed for Seguin.
County General Election results list President Truman leading with 3046 votes and Dewey 1165 while Thurmond 265 and Wallace 18 and Watson 12. Vice President Barkley 3101 and Warren 1138. U S Senator Johnson 2886 and Porter 1526. Governor Jester 3044 and Lane 523 with minor totals. In other news Mr and Mrs Fritz Thuemler of LaGrange celebrated their golden wedding attended by Alfred Janszen of San Antonio and Janszen family members from Moulton.
