By the Editor Norman Thomas runs for a sixth consecutive presidential nomination by the Socialist Party though unlikely to win. A slow rain boosts growth as crops thrive, while state education funds rise with another $6 per capita added, bringing the year totals toward $55 per capita.
Earl K. Long was inaugurated as governor of Louisiana last week with about 50 000 people in attendance. Thirty nine bands supplied music for the ceremony. Long is the brother of the late United States Senator Huey P. Long.
The Moulton schools and St Josephs receive praise for concluding another successful year. The general election ballot will now include presidential and vice presidential candidates, a change from earlier practice. Lyndon Johnson of Johnson City declares candidacy for U S Senate joining Coke Stevenson and George Peddy in the race. Senator W Lee O Daniel has not announced yet.
The Moulton Eagle notes invitation to attend the Yoakum Tom-Tom celebration set for June 10 through 12. A motorcade of about fifteen cars will visit Moulton on Wednesday May 26 at 9 45 A M to promote the event.
Father Flanagan founder of Boys Town Nebraska died of a heart attack in Berlin on Saturday while in Germany to aid youth rehabilitation at the US Army request. He urged obedience to laws and warned motorists to follow traffic rules warning of daily violations and potential accidents.
Memorial services were held Sunday morning at Moulton City Cemetery, with about 1500 attendees. Geier Merrem Post No. 392 American Legion and the Moulton Fire Department sponsored the event, featuring remarks by Vincent Rehmer and a program including singing, trumpet solo, readings, and prayers.
Baccalaureate services will honor 26 Sam and Will Moore High School graduates at the auditorium on Sunday May 23 at 8 15 PM. Rev. C E Bottorff of San Antonio will preach the sermon.
The Moulton High School auditorium will host commencement exercises Monday night May 24 at 8 15. Arnold Freytag president of the school board will deliver diplomas to the 26 graduates.
Mrs. Ed. Hill of Kyle sister of Mrs. Henry Etlinger and Miss Adele Cordes of Moulton is critically ill in a San Marcos hospital.
Memorial services will be held at Witting Cemetery on Sunday May 23 at 2 30 PM. Rev. K Windecker will be the speaker. The public is cordially invited.
Mr and Mrs William Lee Young and their son John spent the weekend in Austin returning Sunday The family had Johns adenoids removed during the visit leaving the operation completed in the city.
Mrs. C. O. Miculka of Rosanky underwent a surgical operation at a Taylor Texas hospital last week and is getting along nicely.
The Lutheran Missionary Society held its regular meeting at Luther Hall on Wednesday afternoon. After the business session, a delicious luncheon was served. The ladies also sent thanks to The Eagle Staff with a plate of sandwiches, cake and doughnuts.
Henry Ruegg a longtime Houston resident died Saturday in a Houston hospital at 59 years 11 months and 15 days He was born in Zurich June 2 1888 and located in Houston 24 years ago He served as assistant city engineer and married Ella Meyer in 1931 Funeral services were at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and burial followed in Schulenburg City Cemetery Surviving are his widow and two sons Harry Ruegg Dallas and Victor Ruegg California.
Governor Beauford H. Jester outlined a crowded weekend schedule in Austin before the Brownwood Democratic convention. He will attend the East Texas water conference and a traffic safety conference in Tyler, visit Corsicana to see his mother and inspect farms, address the Texas Bankers Association in San Antonio, then fly to Brownwood for a County Chairmen’s Association meeting before attending the Democratic convention.
Capt. and Mrs. R. A. Seibert and their baby have arrived back in the United States from Manila and are expected to return home in a few days. Mrs. Seibert is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schmeltekopf of Kyle and granddaughter of Mrs. Henry Etlinger of Moulton.
Four year old Daniel Anton Fojtik son of Mr and Mrs D A Fojtik of Moulton was accidentally run over by a tractor his father used for plowing He was taken to Renger Hospital in Hallettsville where X rays showed no broken bones and he is recovering nicely
Mrs. W. L. Gibson underwent a surgical operation at Schulenburg hospital last week and is getting along nicely. She returned home on Wednesday.
Mrs. Rudy Steinacher underwent a surgical operation at a Hallettsville hospital last week and is recovering nicely.
The Moulton Bobkatz defeated the Hallettsville Brahmas 15 to 5 on Friday. Fehrenkamp pitched for the Bobkatz with 17 strikeouts and led the offense with three hits. Schulenburg Short horns and Bobkatz meet in Schulenburg on May 23 for the District 39B title. Old settlers gathered at Phillip Nolan Grounds for the annual reunion with attendees from many Texas towns. Lyndon B. Johnson spoke in support of his Senate run, praising his record and endorsements. The executive committee was led by J. T. Thompson and included I. S. York and others.
Funeral services were held at his home near Flatonia for Julius Naumann with Rev. Eilers officiating and interment in Black Jack Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Mrs Julius Naumann two daughters Mrs Eddie Julica of LaGrange and Mrs Vastine Baumbauch of O Quinn and two sons Leslie and Wesley Naumann.
Mr and Mrs Edgar Raab announce the birth of a baby boy named John Robert on May 6. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs John Brom and Mr and Mrs Edgar Raab. Mrs Raab was formerly Miss Georgia Brom of Moulton.
The Sophomore Class and sponsor Miss Orsak held a party at Sulphur Park on May 12. Students swam in the afternoon and danced after supper. Supper featured mutton barbecue potato salad iced tea pickles bread and cookies. The event ended at 10 PM with everyone enjoying themselves.
Fred Niemann of Yoakum, candidate for the Democratic nomination for representative to the legislature, spent Wednesday in Moulton mingling with voters.
Two wild cats started in Gonzales County on April 26 were abandoned the same week as dry holes. The Gus Metz No. 1 Ezekiel W. Cullen survey 2% miles west of Leesville was abandoned by Southern Minerals Corporation. At Waelder Harris-Funk Company of Houston reached 5300 feet in the R. E. Harrison No. 1 for Continental Oil Company before quitting.
