Congressman Clark W. Thompson of the Ninth District visits Texas for a World War II memorial dedication in Galveston and an American Legion memorial address in Moulton. He flies in Friday and returns Sunday as master of ceremonies for the Galveston ceremony.
The Moulton Girl Scout Troop held its first meeting Tuesday May 9 at the V F W hall under Scout Leader Mrs. Oscar Raab. Officers elected: Joycelyn Haas president Mary Alice Mladenko vice president Lillie Ann Darilek secretary Barbara Baca treasurer Susie Fehrenkamp reporter Patsy Orts songleader Ida Lee Riebschlaeger roll caller Iva Jo Findeisen parliamentarian. Next meeting set for June 6.
Mrs. Harold Knape, who fractured her right ankle May 7, was discharged from Shiner Hospital Sunday and rests at Weldon Knape’s home. Harold Knape, with a double fracture in the left leg, lies at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio awaiting an operation. O F Knape, Weldon Knape and Wesley Knape visited him Sunday afternoon. his condition shows improvement.
Memorial services will be held Sunday May 21 at 9 30 A M at Moulton City Cemetery under Geier Merrem Post No 392 American Legion. Congressmen Clark W Thompson of Galveston will deliver the address. The complete program appears in The Moulton Eagle.
Mr and Mrs G G Fisbeck and son Stephen Miss Hileen Heinsohn Mrs Lillie Darilek and daughter Lillie Ann attended the Parents Day program at A and M College Sunday.
Yoakum defeated Moulton 4 to 3 on the V. F. W. diamond. Standings show Weimar 2 0, Yoakum 2 0, Moulton 7, with Ries, Rage, Shineroes, Fiallettsville, See Ammansville, Witting 30 3.
A call to action invites local businesses and individuals to join the Moulton Chamber of Commerce. It urges larger, sustained membership and regular meeting attendance to fund and sponsor community betterment programs, promising future dues return and a stronger town and trade area.
Don Washburn of the United Duroc Association visited Dr. A A Warlick’s Duroc Farm in Moulton to photograph Miss Fancy and her 9th PR litter. The litter weighed 774 pounds at 57 days, the heaviest PR litterweight in the nation, with prior litters setting record weights. Washburn noted the 9th PR litter remains the top performer despite age adjustments.
Ben Guinn of Pampa Texas was elected to the United States Congress in a special election. He becomes Texas first Republican congressman in 24 years.
Leon Netardus of Moulton died at Veterans' Hospital in Houston on Tuesday May 16. Funeral services are set for Friday May 19 at Kabena Funeral Home Hallettsville, 9:15 A M, with Requiem High Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Burial in Hallettsville Catholic Cemetery. More notice to follow.
Mrs Frank Janacek who had been receiving treatment at a Galveston Hospital for several weeks returned home this week and is reported to be getting along nicely.
Registration opens May 1 at Baldwin Business College in Yoakum with 22 on opening night and expected doubling as applications flood in. Classes cover Bookkeeping Typewriting Business Math and advanced Accounting with four weekly evenings from 7 PM. Notable registrants include Marjorie Lawrence Herman Mylius and James Anthony among others.
Jerome I. Kocian of Shiner buys Lavaca County Abstract Company and Lavaca County Insurance Agency in Hallettsville from Mrs. J. F. Bozka. Kocian has been principal at Louise High School during the past term.
Dr and Mrs M M Wagner of Moulton announce the arrival of an 8 pound 4 ounce son at Shiner Hospital on Thursday May 4. The baby is named Greg Martin. This makes two sons in the family.
Mr Joe Trojacek of near Moulton has returned from Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio where he underwent a surgical operation and is reported to be recovering nicely.
Cotton farmers may file for 1950 Smith Doxey benefits through the Cotton Branch PMA U S Department of Agriculture. Applications are available at gins county PMA offices and the Austin cotton classing office. Groups under the Smith Doxey Act can have cotton classed at no cost and receive free market news. Apply before July 1 1950 to ensure classification of first bales.
The St Josephs School Club held its regular meeting on Friday May 12 with Rev. Matocha presiding. Officers elected were Mrs Frank Kouba president Mrs Edgar Freytag vice president Mrs Joe Heger secretary Mrs Willie Hoepfl treasurer and Mrs Bruno Wenske reporter.
Albert Pelech a longtime resident was buried in the local cemetery Tuesday May He was honored by family and friends at a prior gathering and memorial notices list relatives across Hempstead Danbury Angleton Houston Corpus Christi San Antonio Shiner Floresville Kingsville Stamford Seguin Moulton and more with numerous Svoboda Darilek and Vlasak connections reflected in a large family reunion held on Mother's Day.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Anderle and several relatives attended the funeral services for Mr. Joe Seltzer held in Victoria on Tuesday.
Mrs Rudie Brueggmann underwent an operation in Temple last week Tuesday and is recovering nicely. Mayor Elo C Fehrenkamp was in Fort Worth earlier in the week. Edwin Handsur and family visited his parents Tom and Mrs Handsur over the weekend. Several relatives from Texas cities joined in Temple and Moulton visits.
Wesley Knape leaves Wilmington North Carolina after a week away and boards a plane in Houston to return with Mrs. O F Knape and Weldon Knape accompanying him.
Albert Pelech died Sunday May 14 at 4 30 PM at the Jemelka home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9 00 AM from Smith Funeral Home with Rev John Matocha at St Josephs Catholic Church. Interment was in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Surviving are three daughters Mrs Emil Jemelka Mrs Ed Wenske Mrs Otto Hanna four sons Frank Emil Adolph Willie and two Dg Bohuslav Bohuslav preceded him in death. He was born in Czechoslovakia April 27 1860 and came to Texas at 25, living near Moulton since. He had 33 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
The American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW will hold a poppy sale on May 20 and 21. Disabled veterans craft the poppies in hope of earning wages and supporting themselves after hospital care as they face the struggle to regain life at home. Buying a poppy aids their needs for food clothing and shelter and promotes self reliance.
