Farmers League Hields Meeting at Moulton High

The Moulton Branch of the Laveca County Farmers' League met at the Moulton High School Auditorium with strong attendance. Members urged use of cotton bagging for cotton bales, requested action from lawmakers, and considering a cotton classer for the season. They also pressed members to study the State Soil Conservation Law enacted by the Forty sixth legislature.

Soil conservation law explained at farmers meeting

Mr Goodnight will explain the provisions of the new soil conservation law at a special meeting Monday night May 22 at 8 30. Farmers and business men are urged to attend and learn more about this program. The league adopted two resolutions: demand a cotton acreage allotment of 45 percent and oppose the 8 percent penalty for overplanting the present allotment. A copy of these resolutions will be sent to the state secretary of the league.

Lavaca county court will convene in Hallettsville during the first week of June. Jurors listed include Fred Fehrenkamp in the first week and Louis Pietsch F J Albrecht and Jerome Vasek in the second week.

A Baylor University student from Moulton, L A Dickson, was elected vice president of the Volunteer Band for next fall at a recent meeting. The announcement came in a Waco Eagle dispatch.

Gonzales County Court Opens May Term in Gonzales

The Gonzales county district court will convene on Monday, May 29 to begin the June term. A separate item notes that the Duke of Windsor’s Appeal to Reason message will be printed in the Congressional Record and suggests wide rebroadcasting.

The third annual homecoming at Old Moulton will be held beneath sturdy oaks on Sunday May 21. Hundreds of former residents descendants and friends will gather for hand clasps and reminiscences with victors from many parts of the state. Worthing Texas May 15 Mrs Louis Kutach 62 widow of a prominent Worthing merchant died Saturday night soon after her husband. She was buried at St Marys Monday morning leaving several children surviving the family records show.

On petition of 151 residents the Gonzales County Commissioners Court orders a local option election for May 27 to prohibit all sale of alcoholic drinks in Precinct 8. Waelder remains the dry area while the precinct is otherwise wet.

The Moulton Boy Scouts joined the Capitol Area Circus in Austin for two performances at House Park. About 2 000 scouts cubs and leaders participated with Moulton taking two first places and one second in chariot races. They earned two first aid kits for wins and thanked sponsors Rudolph John William Miculka Malvin Merrem Weldon Knape for transport.

Seniors Present Annual Class Play at New High

The Sam and Will Moore Institute senior class staged Early to Bed Early to Rise in the new high school auditorium on May 11. The 1939 senior class, aided by other students, produced the first dramatic event in the building, to the delight of a large audience. Miss Lilybeth Lewis directed the performance, praised for the evening's entertainment. Cast included Sybil Pustejovsky, Edward Fehrenkamp, Dorothy Fehrenkamp, Victor Jemelka, Ethel Wagner, Rudy Darilek, Jewell Lockwell, Stella Zavesky, Gordon Fehrenkamp, Elizabeth Kubicek, and Lillian Hronice.

Soft Ball League Plays Two Games

The Moulton Soft Ball League played its fifth and sixth games this week. The High School team defeated the Boy Scouts Tuesday afternoon 9 to 0. Jaeggli's Store team defeated the Fire Department Wednesday afternoon 12 to 7. Harvey Louis Fehrenkamp hit a home run for the Fire Department.
