Lavaca County school officials and patrons urge Gov Gus Russekl and lawmakers to protect public schools from shrinking state per capita funds and revenue losses. They warn terms could drop from two to four months or more if additional sources are not found, noting rural schools face greater cuts.
Citizens urged to sign a resolution supporting county school children and mail cutouts to Frank Schoppe, County Superintendent, Hallettsville Texas. The clippings will be forwarded to the senator and representative. Act at once.
A Gonzales County Centennial Club was organized at the chamber of commerce rooms in Gonzales. Henry Rees Jr was elected president, Dr W T Dawe vice president, and Mrs W J Hildebrand secretary treasurer. Committees were named for ways and means membership history and research publicity.
We thank neighbors and friends for kindnesses during the illness of Frank Wagner Sr. Also the S P J S T and D H S Lodges choir Rev Joseph Kopp Dr Sam Jaeggli and all who brought tributes. These kindnesses will be cherished in memory Frances Wagner F J Wagner and Family.
Hallettsville deputy tax assessor C J McCord spent last week in Moulton examining records and assessing taxes for the current year.
Bad weather and poor roads postpone Komensky PTA gathering until Friday March 3 chaired by F. K. Hrnekr. Miss Lillie Halata read minutes. Arbor Day trees planted eight grafted pecans donated by A. E. Technik and five by teachers with support from George Technik Wm. Wenske F. K. Hinck Frank Bohuslav and others. Next meeting set for April 6 with details to follow.
Mrs Ed Boehm Sr entertained a large group of relatives and friends Monday afternoon for her 71st birthday anniversary. Delicious refreshments were served. Out-of-town guests included Mrs Charler Eissler and Mrs Norman Fehrenkamp of Hallettsville, Mrs Eugene Herzik of Schulenburg, Mrs Emil Buschek, Mrs Henry Etlinger, Mrs Claud Hoover and daughter Miss Jewel of Yoakum.
Kathryn Louise, daughter of Mr and Mrs George F Baur, was christened Sunday morning March 12 at First Lutheran Church Galveston with Rev Victor Albert officiating. Sponsors were Mr and Mrs Louis Baur Houston Mr and Mrs B F Pietsch Galveston and Miss Ella Pietsch Wied.
Miss Dorothy Hoppe of Smithville visited in Moulton for several days last week.
Mr and Mrs D M White of San Antonio spent last weekend in the home of Leona Merrem. The brief social visit featured hospitality and local conversation in a friendly rural setting.
Cread A McCollom of Alice was here since our last issue visiting Mrs. McCollom and Cread.
Mrs Frank Koester and Mrs Alf Spickermann of Skidmore arrived Saturday and stayed several days with Mr and Mrs Ed Kolar and Miss Lydia Koester in Skidmore.
Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Fehren kamp and Mrs. Erna Kotzebue were in Yoakum last week Wednesday for the 77th birthday anniversary of Mrs. C. I. Kaiser.
August Bettinardi and Miss Valesia Hruska wed at St. Louis Catholic Church Oakland California at 8 A M with Miss Doloris Lopin as brides maid and Victor Bettinardi and Mrs J F Hruska as witnesses. They honeymoon in Los Angeles Sacramento Hollywood and other places.
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas letter dated March 13 1933 asks banks to list names and addresses of all individuals who withdrew gold certificates or gold coin since February 1 1933 and had not redeposited by March 17 1933. Publicity of the request is approved.
Washington March 11 The war department allotted 4 256 300 for rivers and harbors improvements. Texas allocations include Freeport harbor Aransas Pass and Port Aransas totaling 478 000 to fund harbor works.

Mrs William Woehler Sr a respected local citizen died suddenly Tuesday night March 14 at her home south of here after a heart attack at about 11 o clock. Funeral and burial were held in Moulton with Rev A H Falkenberg presiding. she was born May 14 1874 and died at 58 years 10 months. She is survived by her husband two sons Edmund and William Woehler Jr one sister and four brothers.
The Geier Merrem American Legion Post Band of Moulton will provide music for the Ninth District convention of the American Legion in LaGrange on Sunday March 19. Delegates from the local post and ladies auxiliary will attend the event.
Mr and Mrs Billie Lake of near Moulton welcome a baby boy named Gilbert born Saturday March 4. Mr and Mrs Roosevelt Etlinger of Yoakum celebrate the arrival of a baby girl born Monday March 6. The Eagle offers congratulations.
Yoakum schools may close at end of seventh month or March 15, per Superintendent George P. Barron. Tax collections in the district run about 12000 dollars short of the budget targets.
The Moulton indoor baseball team defeated Scott's School at Scott's School last week Wednesday by 6 to 15. A number of local fans accompanied the team.
In Washington on March 14 the Cullen 32 per cent beer bill sailed through the House 316 to 97 amid three hours of debate. The measure, expected to raise 126 to 150 million dollars annually, drew 58 Democrats and 39 Republicans in opposition, while 238 Democrats 76 Republicans and five Farmer Laborites supported it with cheers. The last House vote on the bill was 230 to 160 on December 31.
Austin, March 11. H. W. Stillwell president of the State Teachers Association says the state school fund may not exceed $8 per capita next year unless new revenue measures pass. He questions auditor figures and urges teachers statewide to back revenue increases.
Shiner Texas March 8 Mrs Christine Baros 61 wife of F M Baros long time operator of the Commercial Hotel died suddenly and was interred in Shiner Wednesday She is survived by a large family.
The Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Moulton resumed normal business Wednesday after banking department clearance ending the banking holiday. Officials say the bank is open to serve customers and the community is pleased.
The body of J. W. B. Kerr aged 72 was brought from San Antonio and buried from his brother W. H. Kerr’s residence in Flatonia Tuesday morning. He was a former local citizen.
A force of men has begun street improvement in the city. West First street has received a sandstone topping from Kerr avenue to Cockrill avenue, two blocks past the fire station. Other street work is contemplated.

Governor Miriam A. Ferguson signed a bill repealing the automobile headlight law. The legislature approved the repeal to take effect immediately, removing the 25 cent headlight test fee required to obtain a car license.
Washington March 14 The deadline for filing income tax returns was extended from March 15 to March 31 by the internal revenue bureau acting on a treasury department decision. Those who defer filing must pay 6 percent per year interest on the first quarterly installment from March 15.
