The State Firemen and Fire Marshals Association named Amarillo as the 1938 convention site at Port Arthur where Erwin Speckels of Schulenburg won the only elective post fourth vice president. Speckels will become president in 1941. J C Felger was renamed chaplain and Lewis Haynes was advanced to the presidency.

School Boy Dies On Dairy Truck
A coroner's verdict of accidental death was returned for 17 year old Joe Schnuriger of 107 Yorkshire Street. He died when brushed from a milk truck on East Commerce Street while the truck passed a parked vehicle. Driver was William Faulk. He was a Brackenridge School sophomore and worked to finance his education. Survived by parents, twin brother John Jr., three other brothers and three sisters. Family residence listed as San Antonio with past residence in Moulton.

First Bale Sells At Thirty Cents
Corpus Christi Cotton Exchange bought the first bale of the 1937 crop at auction for 30 cents a pound. The bale weighed 602 pounds and was classed 7 8 inch middling. Grower Francisco P. Lozano received 500 dollars from the Southern Bagging Company. The cotton was ginned at the Guerra gin in Rio Grande City and grown on a farm 15 miles east.
