Governor W Lee O Daniel proposed renaming Texas highway patrolmen to rangers advising the public safety commission. The 800 patrol officers would keep duties unchanged while the old ranger unit remains a century old and focused on broader law enforcement.
A speech declares fire destroys vast wealth and opportunity far beyond direct losses. It cites annual direct losses around 300 million dollars, with indirect losses raising total to about a billion, affecting employment, housing, cars, highways, education, and pensions. It urges universal fire prevention as everybody's business.

Wm J Tomasco a prominent Shiner businessman died at Shiner hospital Sunday night January 22 after a lingering illness. Funeral held Tuesday at 2 PM from his home with Lutheran Church services and interment in Shiner City Cemetery. He was 62 years 5 months 7 days born in Moulton. He served on Shiner's board of aldermen and contributed to town growth. He leaves a widow two brothers Frank of Shiver Emil of Houston a sister Mrs G Gardiner of Philadelphia and many friends.
Approximately 190 acres of tomatoes are being planted by farmers in Gonzales County, according to chamber of commerce officials.
A Fort Worth air plane factory is planned with an estimated cost of 170000 dollars. The plant will employ 900 workers and produce four planes weekly with completion scheduled for August 1.
The county Farmers League convention, initially set for Moravia on February 24, moved to Hallettsville Courthouse. It will be held Saturday night January 28 at 7 30 o clock with delegates from county branches urged to attend and several speakers scheduled.

Senator Tom Connally suggests 3,000,000 bales of government cotton be made into mattresses and other articles for distribution to the hungry and naked. He argues this move would help the needy spend more on food and calls for more democracy at home.

Austin reports a bill introduced by Rep Mason D Harrell of Smithville to force motorists to dim headlights at night meetings. The measure, signed by 17 house members, carries an emergency clause declaring failure to dim lights dangerous.
Washington reports the census bureau figures for last season’s cotton ginned prior to January 16 totaling 13,558,369 running bales with 157,612 round bales counted as half bales and excluding linters. For comparison, ginnings to that date a year ago reached 17,644,208 bales and two years ago 11,956,881.
The Moulton Bobkittens defeated the Weimar girls at Weimar Tuesday night by a score of 82 to 12.
In a fine exhibition of basketball the Moulton Bobkittens defeated the Yoakum girls 34 to 24 at Yoakum Friday night. The Moulton Bobkatz then lost to the Yoakum Bulldogs 36 to 17.
The regular monthly meeting will be held at the Fire Station Monday night February 6 beginning at 7 20 o clock.
