Washington reports the first popular vote under the ever normal granary law will be held March 12 among cotton and tobacco growers. Quotas require two thirds approval to become operative for the current year. Polls run 9 PM to 7 PM. any producer who grew cotton or tobacco in 1937 may vote.
The second regional meeting of City Fire Marshals will be held in Cuero Sunday February 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fire marshals from twenty six towns and city officials fire chiefs and firemen are expected to attend.
The Texas Lutheran College Band of Seguin led by Rudy Willmann performed at the George Washington Birthday and Mexico Texas Good Will Celebration in Laredo. The group also took part in the big parade, with Wesley Knape of Moulton listed as a band member.
Joe Kolar of Flatonia, brother of Anton and Ed Kolar of Moulton, who had been ill, was taken to a San Antonio hospital Tuesday for treatment.
Community committeemen W. J. Jasek as chairman with Edgar Freytag and Henry Butschek assisted farmers with work sheets Friday and Saturday. By Saturday night about 125 farmers had signed the sheets.
Louis Darilek of Houston visited his parents Mr and Mrs Ad Darilesk at Evergreen School on Sunday.
Moulton businesses sign an agreement to close at 6 PM on weekdays starting February 28 1938 with 6 30 PM Friday openings during Lent. Closed all day on listed holidays Fourth of July Armistice Thanksgiving Christmas New Year’s Day. If a holiday falls on Sunday observed the next day. The list includes Ed Boehm’s Sons Edwin Jaeggis Co P and L Co Piggly Wiggly and many local shops.
A. J. Melnar opens a new barber shop in the Mueller Bros. building on Front Street and invites friends to visit.
A group of relatives and friends from Tulsa Fort Adams West Columbia Houston Austin Richmond Fredericksburg San Antonio gathered at the Vince Rehmer home Saturday for several hours of visiting. Attendees included Major Leon Kotzebue and numerous Kotzebue family members along with Mrs. Graves Bruskenhoefer Franke Livingston Ferguson Maxwell.
Mrs. Emilie Westerhoff of Moulton died February 22 after six weeks of illness. Funeral services were held at her home and Zion Lutheran Church with German and English rites. She was 68, born May 24 1869 in New Ulm Austin County. Survived by two sons Fred W Westcourt and Adolph Westerhoff, two grandchildren, a sister Amalie Herzig, and brothers George Baur and Adolph Baur. Burial at Boursville Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kolar and son were in Kyle Sunday. J H McCormick and Warren Zieber of Dallas were in Moulton Wednesday. Dan Darilek of Houston visited his parents Judge and Mrs A J Darilek Sunday. Mrs E Brunkenhoefer of San Antonio visited her parents Mr and Mrs G J Bohnenkamp Saturday. Edwin Darilek of Houston spent Sunday with his parents Mr and Mrs John Darilek of Henkhaus. O A Arnim returned to Houston Monday after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs K O Arnim. Mr and Mrs Erwart Raab of Houston visited in the home of his parents Mr and Mrs F P Raab Sunday.
G. W. Cooper of Houston and his sister Mrs. Tom J. Fatjo Jr. of Richmond spent Sunday with local relatives.
Mr and Mrs Blo Mraz of Houston returned Sunday from Little Rock Arkansas where Mr Mraz has been under treatment He is getting along nicely They were accompanied by Johanie Culak
Miss Emma Mueller born December 5 1897 in Moulton died February 17 in Floresville at 7 30 P M She lived in Moulton Seguin and Floresville and worked in Seguin and Floresville Funeral services were held in Moulton and Zion Lutheran Seguin with interment in Moulton Cemetery Pallbearers were Alwin Mueller Jr Herbert Mueller Edgar Mueller Benno Fisbeck Arnold Mueller and Leander Mueller She is survived by her father John G Mueller three brothers A P Mueller John C Mueller and George Mueller and sister Mrs Ida Boening The Eagle offers sympathy memorial services at Emanuel Lutheran Seguin March 6.
A long list of mourners traveled from many towns to attend the funeral services. The names include Leon Helweg and family, Henry Boening, Edgar Fisbeck, Benno Fisbeck, Theo Boening, Prof. Robert Shortt, Mrs. Willie Pundt, Mrs. Otto Baumann, and numerous others from Floresville, Schulen burg, Halletts ville, Cheapside, Westhoff, Breslau, and Seguin.
Texas cotton growers may plant 9 839 627 acres this year under tentative plans of the state conservation committee. George Slaughter, committee chairman, announced the figure at Texas A and M. The average harvested acreage from 1932 to 1935 was 11 279 750 acres.
Mrs. Leona Kotzebue 72 formerly of Moulton and Flatonia lived years in San Antonio where she taught music and was on the Sam and Will Moore Institute staff. She died after about three weeks illness in a San Antonio hospital. Funeral services were held in San Antonio and burial was in Flatonia City Cemetery. Survived by two sons M. H. Kotzebue Tulsa and Major L L Kotzebue Fort Adams RI and brother G O Lighner Brownsville.
Maj L L Kotzebue of Fort Adams Rhode Island traveling to San Antonio for his mother Mrs Leona Kotzebue funeral escaped injury when the American Mercury airliner made a forced landing at Forest City Arkansas. His brother M H Kotzebue of Tulsa said the telegram reported he was unhurt. The report appeared in the San Antonio Light.
The American Legion Post of Brenham prepares to mark the 102nd Texas Independence Day at Old Washington on March 2. Governor James W Allred and other prominent speakers will address the gathering.

The Moulton High School Band under Mr. Whittle performed Wednesday night in the school auditorium. The program featured band numbers, instrument solos, and group selections, delighting an appreciative audience.
Maurice A. Strunk of Hallettsville, seeking Lavaca County sheriff, visited Moulton on Friday to meet voters and stop by The Eagle office for his name to appear in the announcement column. William A. Bilers, Hallettsville, candidate for county superintendent of public instruction, was in town Saturday morning and spoke briefly at The Eagle office.
Dolores Hilda Freytag, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagner, died Wednesday evening. The funeral is set for Friday at 9:30 A.M. from the Lucke home, with burial in Moulton Public Cemetery. A fuller obituary will follow next week.
Mr and Mrs Ed Froehlich of Cuero celebrated their golden wedding on Sunday. He is 74 and she 70. The couple have three sons and two daughters.
