City of Moulton adopts an ordinance fixing the fiscal year from August 1 to July 31, requiring sworn property inventories by January 1, and setting due dates for ad valorem taxes with escalating penalties through July 1. The measure includes delinquency interest and repeals prior ordinances, with emergency passage effective upon approval February 14, 1988.
The Moulton Parent-Teacher Association held its regular Wednesday meeting at the school with attendance higher than recent sessions. A banner was awarded to the grade with the most mothers present, the third grade having kept it since fall. Plans for a benefit bridge and a 42 party were discussed along with P.T.A. objects and officer duties. Mrs. O. F. Knape spoke on the Children's Endowment Fund.
The Moulton Boy Scouts marked their twenty eighth anniversary by wearing uniforms to school all week. They sponsored a basketball game Wednesday night and earned a neat profit to help fund travel expenses for a trip next summer.
The City of Moulton becomes owner of all holdings of the Moulton Water Works Company. County Attorney William Allen draws up the papers and possession is set for April. The sale was authorized at the stockholders meeting held January 27.
Congressman J. J. Mansfield appoints Dan H. Fertsch and Arnold Mozisek as second alternates for admission to the United States Military Academy. They will take entrance examinations in San Antonio on March 1.
The Zion Lutheran Church parish meeting endorsed Rev. Jacobs of Westhoff for the pastorate, inviting him to lead the congregation.
Mr. and Mrs. John H. Wessels of Halstedt near LaGrange marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary with relatives and friends. Mr. Wessels is 74 and Mrs. Wessels 78. They have three sons and two daughters. local guests included G J Bohnenkamp, George von Lienen, Henry Krueger, J L Janssen, and Emma Juengermanon.
Ernst John Kuntschik age 16 died February 1 after a two week illness. Burial was February 8 at Gonzales new Catholic Cemetery with Rev. James Wichterlich presiding. He leaves parents two sisters three sisters and two brothers, plus a twin brother Edgar and many relatives.
Mr and Mrs Charles F Svejear and children and Mrs Gusta Rudat returned to Crystal Lake Illinois after a visit in the home of Paul Mayer Dickson School It was the first time Mrs Rudat met her brother Both are natives of Europe but Mr Mayer had come to Lavaca county before his sister was born
The Moulton Business Men's League voted 16 to 5 in favor of a bond election to improve lateral roads in Precinct 6. A seven member committee, one from each community, will oversee the planned $70,000 bonds and road construction program pending a petition to create a special road district.
The Moulton Boy Scouts sponsored two basketball games at Herman Park hall on Wednesday night February 9. Hallettsville defeated the local team 21 to 18 in the first game and the lean boys of town beat the fat boys 20 to 18 in the second. Public sentiment favors another similar event.
Motivational civic exhortation urges townsfolk to unite work hands on deck to build prosperity. Encourages harmony, local pride, supporting home businesses, printing locally, and avoiding outside goods. Emphasizes speaking well of the town, discouraging critics, and staying active in municipal affairs.
The Guadalupe Valley Dental Society met in Shiner with Dr. A. A. Darilek hosting. About 20 dentists attended and an interesting program was presented. The auxiliary met at the Darilek home. The next gathering is set for Yorktown on Saturday, March 12.
Mrs. W. J. Spear formerly of Moulton now residing in Flatonia underwent a serious surgical operation at La Grange hospital on February 7. She is recovering nicely. Miss Allyne Spear stays with her mother at the hospital.
On Friday night February 11 a crowd of school patrons and friends gathered in the high school auditorium for a benefit bridge and 42 party sponsored by the Moulton Parent-Teacher Association. Refreshments were served.
Roselyn daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Kotzebue entertained 29 guests Sunday for her fifth birthday with cake sandwiches soda water and candy provided during the celebration at their home.
Lavaca county court calls jurors for the March term listing Julius Jasek Willie Boehm Rud Heinrich Ad Gertner Jo Culak Joe E Sustr Eddie Wenske Joe Etlinger John Cinadr and L F Cooper among summoned citizens.
Warning issued by Moulton Public Cemetery Assn and Commissioner Arnold Freytag. Unauthorized dirt hauling from cemetery grounds or adjacent road will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The Moulton Home Demonstration Club met February 9 at 2 PM at Mrs. Hugo Fisbeck’s home. Officers and committees were appointed, Miss Morgan spoke on pruning and shrub care, and seven guests attended. A lunch was served. next meeting is March 9 at Miss Elizabeth Dierschke’s home.
F Wilks, long time resident of Moulton, observed his 78th birthday Sunday with delicious refreshments. Out of town guests included Hugo Wilks and family from Goliad, Fred Wilks and family, Bill Wilks and family, Erwin Johnson and daughter Dela Marie of San Antonio, Rudolph Roeder and Charles Schindler of Schulenburg.
Baursville Parent Teacher Association met on Friday February 11 with a student program before business. The treasurer reported, motions to oil the floor and buy two gasoline lanterns were approved, and the next meeting set for Thursday March 10.
Colonel and Mrs. Fred Fehrenkamp and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Miculka attended the American Legion banquet in LaGrange last week. National Commander J. H. Doherty gave a stirring address on national defense and the pending universal draft measure in Congress.
Jeanette Jalufka daughter of Mr and Mrs Emil Jalufka of this place attends St Joseph's School fell Tuesday morning and sustained a fracture of her right arm above the wrist. The Regie hopes the injured member will mend quickly.
