The year saw 33 conflagrations valued at a million dollars or more, destroying over 100 million in property and accounting for 624 million in total losses. One third of fires occurred in towns under 10 000, prompting calls for better fire departments safety measures and industrial upkeep nationwide.
The immunization drive finished at Moulton High School on Wednesday morning under Dr. Hugo J. Strieder. A total of 359 shots were given to students from Evergreen Oak Grove Boursville Kamensky Novohrad St. Joseph's Moulton Public and the Negro School. Three shots had been given during the term to complete the program.
A daughter named Della Marie Simper was born to Mr and Mrs Willie Simper on February 16 at 12 45 PM. The baby weighed six pounds eleven ounces. The Simper family resides in Shiner.
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Knape journeyed to San Antonio where Mr. Knape consulted an eye specialist and underwent treatment. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Knape on Monday.
Moulton High Bobkatz clinched the West Zone title in District 66-B by beating Waelder Wildcats 47 to 13. Fehrenkamp and Holub led with 12 points each, while Waelder’s Miksch topped scoring with 7. The game featured a tight first half with Moulton leading 13 to 6 at the break.
Mr and Mrs Rudy Vyoral celebrate the birth of a 614 pound baby boy named Daniel at Dr Strieder Hospital on February 14 at 11 20 PM. This is the Vyoral couple’s first child and the grandparents are Mr and Mrs Tom Vyoral. The mother is former Miss Marvy Chiliek of Yoakum.
The St Josephs School 4 H Club girls held their regular monthly meeting Friday February 6. The president opened the session and minutes were approved. Miss Martin explained the dress review contest and members displayed their work to Miss Martin and sponsor Sister Rita. The next meeting is scheduled for the first Friday in March.
Those who helped to celebrate the birthday anniversary of Louis P. Boehm were Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Bohen and son Mr. and Mrs. Milton Dari lek and Mrs. Fred Pilat of San Antonio Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bal ajka and daughters of Houston Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boehm and daughter of Luling Mrs. Mary Boehm of Gonzales.
Norman Novosad and Alvin Meyer of Moulton were awarded World War II Victory Medals on Wednesday. Chief Motor Machinist R. E. Hanak of the Victoria Recruiting Station presented the medals.
The Moulton Home Demonstration Club will hold its regular meeting Wednesday February 25 at the home of Mrs. Jim Hoepfl. All members and visitors are welcome.
The Moulton Bobkatz defeated Schulenburg 59 to 18 Tuesday night. Fisbeck led Bobkatz with 12 points while O Fehrenkampf Kubenka 7 Kolar 11 Holub 11 Beran 3 Berckenhoff 3 Krejci 5 and Maresh 1 also scored. Schulenburg’s Sengleman Seidenberger led with 5 each followed by Shimek 4 Lorfling 1 Palmer 1 Cornelson 2.
Chief motor machinist FR. E. Hanak of the Navy Recruiting Station in Victoria Texas gave a thirty minute talk to the senior boys of Moulton High School on education and Navy. His discussion was described as very interesting and beneficial.
John Freytag underwent a surgical operation at a Hal lettsville Hospital and is recovering nicely. The patient shows steady improvement and is under careful medical observation.
The Moulton Bobkittens travel to Garwood to compete in a volleyball tournament. They are scheduled to face the Ganado Girls at 1 PM Saturday.
Jerome Barcak and Mildred Kalisek wed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Richmond on February 9 at 9:00 am. The ceremony featured a satin gown with lace bodice and a pearl crown veil, with several relatives as attendants and witnesses. The couple will reside in Rosenberg where the groom works.
Austin February report quotes George Clarke of the Texas Safety Association urging motorists to keep brakes lights mirrors windshield wipers horns and safety glass in good condition. He cites National Safety Council data showing 18 percent of fatal crashes involve defective vehicles and urges periodic inspections by trained mechanics for all drivers.
Funeral services for Pvt. Edward L. Biehunke Jr who was killed in action in France on July 21 1944 were held at the Oehl Funeral Home in Moulton Friday February 13 at 2 00 PM Rev K Windecker Lutheran Minister officiating. Interment was in the Moulton Public Cemetery with military honors conducted by Geier Merrem Post No 392 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 6971. The body arrived at Flatonia at 511 PM escorted by Sgt Frank P Gallagher. A large crowd attended the rites with active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named. The color bearers guards and firing squad participated.
Mrs. H B Moeller 79 died at her Moulton home Wednesday morning last week. Services were Friday February 12 at 9:00 A M in St Joseph Church with Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. Burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. She lived in the community over 50 years and is survived by husband H B Moeller of Moulton, six children, 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, three sisters.
Lavaca County 4 H Club and F F A Boys and Girls announce their annual fat stock show on March 3. Animals must be on the grounds by 9:00 AM. Judging begins at 1:00 PM and the auction sale follows at 8:00 PM. Fat steers lambs and hogs will be shown with Stud Barnes of the Extension Service as judge.
Mr and Mrs Henry Mallinek announce the birth of a son named Sydney John born Monday February 16 at 12 35 PM at Dr Strieder Hospital. The baby weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces. Mother is former Miss Gladys Cervenka of Moulton.
Merwin Krejci says he has learned to like the Navy during his service. He has about five weeks of boot training before being sent to Jacksonville Florida for 16 weeks at Aviation Fundamental School. He is the son of Mrs. Stella Krejci of Moulton.
The Moulton Fire Department honored active members with an oyster supper at the fire station on Thursday night. Joe Kubenka Jr. prepared the oysters, Victor O Fehrenkamp brewed coffee, and several members donated oysters and other favors. About 40 men attended.
